Job Opportunity at the Central Animal Facility
The Central Animal Facility is the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team in a pivotal role.
Areas of Responsibility
Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, including processes, finances, and personnel management.
Provide comprehensive veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
Supervise the hygiene and monitoring program to ensure high standards of animal welfare.
Manage the animal stock using a sophisticated database system.
Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday animal care.
Write, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Advise researchers on genetically modified mouse breeding and related research procedures.
Ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, University's directives, and processing specifications.
Participate in building renovation projects as needed.
Support the ECLAM residency program and internal education efforts.
Requirements
A doctorate in veterinary medicine with specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
Practical experience in breeding genetically modified models; experience with fish or zebrafish is a plus.
Proven management experience and leadership skills in complex organizational structures.
Team-oriented and goal-driven with excellent communication skills.
Fluency in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
