Central Animal Facility - University of Bern
The Central Animal Facility is the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. We invite enthusiastic and qualified candidates to join our team.
Areas of Responsibility
Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, overseeing processes, finances, and personnel.
Provide veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
Supervise hygiene and monitoring programs.
Manage the animal stock using a database system.
Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday care.
Write, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Advise researchers on genetically modified mouse breeding and research procedures.
Ensure compliance with the regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, university directives, and process specifications.
Participate in building renovation projects.
Support the ECLAM residency program and internal education.
Requirements
A doctorate in veterinary medicine with a specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
Practical experience in breeding genetically modified models; experience with fish or zebrafish is a plus.
Proven management experience and leadership in complex structures.
Team-oriented with excellent communication skills.
Fluent in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
