Job Opportunity at the Central Animal Facility
The Central Animal Facility is the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. We are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team in a challenging and rewarding role.
Areas of Responsibility
- Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, encompassing processes, finances, and personnel.
- Provide veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
- Supervise the hygiene and monitoring program.
- Manage the animal stock using a database system.
- Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday care.
- Write, update, and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Advise researchers regarding genetically modified mouse breeding and research procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, university directives, and process specifications.
- Participate in building renovation projects.
- Support the ECLAM residency program and internal education initiatives.
Requirements
- A doctorate in veterinary medicine with a specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
- Practical experience in breeding genetically modified models; experience with fish or zebrafish is a plus.
- Proven management experience and leadership abilities in complex structures.
- Strong team-oriented and goal-driven mindset with excellent communication skills.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in German is an advantage.
