Job Opportunity: Central Animal Facility Director
The Central Animal Facility is the largest facility of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) at the University of Bern, Switzerland. We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled professional to lead our operations and ensure excellence in animal care and research.
Areas of Responsibility
- Direct the operation of the Central Animal Facility, including processes, finances, and personnel management.
- Provide veterinary clinical, surgical, and medical care to the animal population.
- Supervise the hygiene and monitoring program.
- Manage the animal stock using the database system.
- Plan and participate in emergency, weekend, and holiday care.
- Write, update, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Advise researchers on genetically modified mouse breeding and research procedures.
- Ensure compliance with the regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, university directives, and process specifications.
- Participate in building renovation projects.
- Support the ECLAM residency program and internal education initiatives.
Requirements
- A doctorate in veterinary medicine with a specialization in laboratory animal medicine (ECLAM/ACLAM diploma or board eligibility).
- Practical experience in breeding genetically modified models; experience with fish or zebrafish is a plus.
- Proven management experience and leadership skills in complex structures.
- Team-oriented and goal-focused with excellent communication skills.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of German is an advantage.
