Purpose of Role
We are seeking a Head of Sixth Form who will play a pivotal role in facilitating a seamless transition into the A Level programme for all students. This position demands a leader who will maintain a comprehensive support system for all Sixth Form students and set the tone for academic attainment and pastoral care. Our focus is on providing a unique, student-centered structure that establishes ambitious yet realistic goals for our Sixth Form students.
The successful candidate will exhibit strong leadership qualities and inspire colleagues and students alike to strive for excellence and continual improvement, ensuring a high-quality experience and outcomes within the BSG Sixth Form. The Head of Sixth Form will collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team at a whole-school level to uphold the values and ethos of the British School of Geneva, promote student well-being, support curriculum delivery, and enhance the school's profile within the ISP group and the wider community.
This role involves an expected teaching load of 6 class contact hours per week.
The School
The British School of Geneva, part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), welcomes applications from global students with diverse educational backgrounds, as well as those progressing from our own Key Stage 4. The Head of Sixth Form must possess the skills to guide, advise, and nurture our students through their A Level studies, ensuring successful transitions to their chosen university, college, or further educational pathways.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Leader, you will play a critical role in assisting the Head of School in establishing the institution as both a School of Choice and an Employer of Choice. You will report directly to the Head of School and work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team. Your accountability covers the desired outcomes in the following areas:
- Safeguarding and Wellbeing
- Culture Building
- Leadership and Development
- Learning and Embedding Quality
- Partnership with ISP
- Partnership with Parents, Careers, and the Wider Community
- Communication and Admissions
More specifically, the incumbent will:
- Oversee the Curriculum and Teaching & Learning at Key Stage 5.
- Monitor the academic progress and pastoral care of Sixth Form students.
- Lead on attendance, absence, assessment, and reporting for Sixth Form.
- Manage a team of up to 10 teachers.
- Co-lead on Professional Development Days with other SLT members.
- Co-lead on whole-school Teaching and Learning with Curriculum Leaders and SLT.
- Co-lead on the ISP Learning Improvement Plan and School Improvement Plan.
- Lead efforts to ensure continued enrollment in Sixth Form, targeting 5% growth annually.
- Promote the A Level programme and encourage Sixth Form enrollment through establishing contacts and hosting events.
- Guide students in Future Pathways, including university applications and career planning.
- Serve as the Exams Officer, coordinating A Level and IGCSE examinations.
Contractual Expectations
Working hours are from 08:00 AM to 05:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with a provision of 1 hour for break/lunch. Flexibility from SLT members is expected to meet school needs.
A full-time contract includes the following commitments:
- Availability during the week prior to Professional Development week, which may be remote.
- Attendance at Professional Development Week each August.
- Participation in weekly staff meetings (currently Monday from 15:45 – 16:40).
- Attendance at scheduled Parent-Teacher-Student Meetings.
- Participation in four whole-school events throughout the year.
- Completion of 2.5 hours of break and lunch duty each week.
- Allocation of 2 hours weekly for cover of absent colleagues, if required.
- Completion of a minimum of three CPD courses each year (SLT standard).
- Participation in Reception and/or Open Days, or other ambassadorial roles in support of the Admissions Department throughout the year.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent, with experience teaching Key Stages 3-5.
- Proven knowledge of the A Level programme is essential.
- Experience working with international students is preferred.
- Adept at pushing academic standards while providing adequate support to students.
- Inclusion-oriented approach with a strong commitment to student welfare.
- Ability to guide and advise on applications to tertiary education.
- Proficient in IT and comfortable using various online platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to further develop the existing programme.
- Knowledge of UCAS is essential; familiarity with global university application systems is desirable.
