Hardware Product Owner & Development Engineer

Roche Switzerland bridges the gap between pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, with key research and development functions based in our facility. We are seeking a talented and versatile Hardware Product Owner & Development Engineer for our long-term client, F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, located in Basel.

Background:

This dual-role position involves engaging in hands-on hardware development (in either electronics or mechanical engineering) while also leading the agile delivery of the multi-disciplinary laboratory instrumentation team through Scrum and Kanban methodologies, as part of the SAFe framework. As a Product Owner, you will collaborate closely with Product Management to translate the overarching Product Vision into an actionable and high-quality Team Backlog. Your primary duty will include Backlog Refinement, skillfully breaking down complex Features into well-defined User Stories. You will prioritize tasks tactically to ensure the team consistently meets its Iteration Goals.

With your strong technical background, you will actively work alongside engineers to manage technical debt and architectural enablers effectively. You will also serve as the primary point of communication, ensuring transparent interactions between the development team and external stakeholders.

In the capacity of a hardware development engineer, you will dedicate your efforts to translating technical requirements into robust electronic designs while considering costs, reliability, tolerances, and serviceability. You will design functional electronic and mechanical architectures, ensuring proper definition and integration of all system interfaces. Your role will involve close collaboration with various disciplines, including firmware, software, testing, electronics, and mechanical engineering, to conduct instrument integration tests. Additionally, you will author, review, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation to adhere to internal processes and medical device regulations.

Through cross-functional collaboration, you will engage in technical reviews with stakeholders from Research and Development, Operations, and Customer Support, as well as manage technical communications with external suppliers.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Product ownership within Scrum and Kanban frameworks in SAFe
  • Hands-on mechanical or electronics development
  • Creation and management of technical documentation
  • Conducting integration testing and issue analyses within interdisciplinary teams

Must Haves:

  • A degree in a related field; Fachhochschule is a minimum requirement
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on hardware development experience in cross-functional teams (firmware, software, mechanical & electrical engineering)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a small, interdisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in mechanical and electronics design tools
  • Fluency in English and German

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in product development management or product ownership
  • Strong expertise in PCB schematic design or mechanical design
  • Familiarity with tools such as Siemens Xpedition, Solidworks, Catia, and Azure DevOps
  • Experience in motor control applications and instrument workflows
  • Knowledge of the SAFe framework
