About Systems Operations
Our Systems Operations team plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between system development and reliable operation within real-world research and clinical settings. Currently comprising five members, our team is intentionally diverse, encompassing roles from site reliability engineering to operational profiles engaged in clinical study execution. As systems mature from development to application, we take on operational priorities that emerge across NEXUS.
Role Overview: Group Leader Systems Operations
As the Group Leader for Systems Operations, you will lead a diverse team and shape how NEXUS operates systems in collaboration with users and partners. Your leadership will create clarity across responsibilities, minimize friction, and establish consistent service delivery that empowers projects to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team with various professional backgrounds and working styles.
- Operational Ownership: Ensure the reliable operation of internal and partner-facing systems, including deployments, environments, access patterns, and day-to-day stability.
- Transition and Lifecycle Management: Define and manage the handover process from development to controlled testing phases and long-term operations.
- Regulated and Structured Execution: Oversee work requiring regulatory compliance, validated processes, and thorough documentation, particularly in clinical study settings.
- Stakeholder Management: Proactively manage expectations, resolve conflicts early, and translate technical realities into user-friendly language.
- Service Delivery and Prioritization: Manage incoming requests, triage tasks, and prioritize across multiple demands while balancing urgency, risk, and value.
- Reliability Practices: Establish practical standards for monitoring, backups, change management, and access control.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Software Engineering, Clinical Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, and Screening & Lab Automation to ensure coherent end-to-end delivery.
- Process Improvement: Simplify and standardize practices where helpful, without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Resource Management: Plan capacity and priorities while reporting on a growing portfolio of operational commitments.

- Proven leadership experience in operations, platform engineering, or comparable roles with delivery responsibility.
- Strong stakeholder management skills for aligning expectations and resolving conflicts.
- Experience managing systems in environments where reliability and documentation are paramount.
- Ability to communicate technical details effectively to non-technical users.
- Strong technical foundation to engage with engineers on deployment and system reliability.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Strongly Expected:
- Experience defining operational models and service boundaries between teams.
- Comfort with structured documentation when the context demands it.
Advantageous:
- Background in healthcare, clinical research operations, or hospital environments.
- Familiarity with security-focused deployments and pragmatic risk management.
- Knowledge of German.
