Global Project Manager
Roche Switzerland bridges the gap between pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, hosting key research and development functions. We are seeking a Global Project Manager for our long-term client, F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG, located in Basel.
Background
The Principal Project Manager (PM) is tasked with overseeing a diverse range of projects, taking into account their respective stages and complexities. Responsibilities span various assignments including development pipeline projects, line extensions, post-approval activities, technology initiatives, and continuous improvement programs. The Principal PM works independently, adeptly prioritizing and managing workloads to meet team objectives with limited guidance. This role requires flexibility to collaborate across global time zones and includes occasional travel to external partners to facilitate collaboration and strategic planning activities.
Tasks & Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
- In collaboration with the Technical Development Team Lead (TDTL) and Device Team Leader (DTL), translate device strategy into actionable plans with a focus on:
- Planning: Define "inspection ready" Design & Development Plans
- Execution: Drive team activities to meet project and design control deliverables
- Team Dynamics: Ensure effective communication and facilitate team performance in a regulated environment using varied processes and tools.
Project Management Responsibilities:
- Maintains full understanding of program milestones for Core, Lifecycle, Technical Development, and associated teams.
- Effectively applies PM best practices for planning, communication, team building, collaboration, decision-making, issue and risk management, and budget tracking.
- Develops and updates Design & Development Plan, establishing contingency plans as needed.
- Ensures transparent communication of key team information and escalates issues as appropriate.
- Establishes positive team dynamics through team building and promotes a collaborative environment.
- Facilitates efficient decision-making and issue resolution while identifying team risks and mitigation plans.
Project Planning and Execution:
- Manages project scope and facilitates necessary changes.
- Facilitates project plan development and execution, monitoring project schedules.
- Integrates deliverables with other teams linked to the product.
- Ensures effective team dynamics and positive environments.
Risk and Issue Management:
- Anticipates and manages risks with proactive contingency plans.
- Facilitates the risk management process and issue resolution.
Collaboration and Team Building:
- Assesses team dynamics and leads team-building activities to sustain a high-performing environment.
- Establishes relationships and networks with stakeholders and PMs.
Communication:
- Develops and adapts project communication tools to drive awareness of project progress and risks.
- Acts as Device Team Leader backup for communication as required.
- Liaises with other teams to manage cross-functional activities, issues, and risks.
Meeting and Budget Management:
- Facilitates effective team meetings with clear outcomes and follow-up actions.
- Forecasts and monitors team resources and project costs.
Knowledge Management:
- Establishes centralized team access to all relevant project information.
- Manages the team's uncontrolled document repository.
- Conducts lessons learned exercises during project execution and shares outcomes with a broader audience.
Governance:
- Navigates the Device Team through business process stage-gates effectively.
- Supports Team Leader with technical advisory and governance committee reviews at predefined check-in points.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
- Leads business process continuous improvement initiatives by applying project lessons and driving awareness across teams.
Must Haves:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- 8 to 11 years of experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a relevant industry, preferably within a global medical device, pharmaceutical, or biopharmaceutical company.
- Experience in project management in drug and/or medical device development and commercialization, particularly with combination products.
- Proficiency in Project Management best practices and software (Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Google suite).
- PMP certification is an asset.
- Knowledge of 21CFR820.30 design control requirements.
- Experience with vendor/partner collaboration.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage complex projects independently in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
- Fluent English is required; proficiency in German, Japanese, or Danish is an advantage.
