Job Title: Global Head of Media Relations
The Global Head of Media Relations is essential in shaping and executing EFG International’s media strategy, aimed at amplifying the bank’s earned media presence and enhancing its positioning. This role also involves managing the journalist network effectively.
The successful candidate will lead financial communications in close partnership with the CEO, CFO, and Investor Relations team. Responsibilities include drafting and managing vital documents such as media releases, Q&As, presentations, and briefing materials. Issues management and crisis communications are pivotal aspects of this strategic position, entailing the preparation of playbooks, media statements, and contributions to internal processes and reviews.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and execute EFG’s earned media strategy, continuously enhancing the bank’s media presence and external profile in Switzerland and other key business regions.
- Build and cultivate relationships with relevant journalists and media outlets to shape EFG’s external perception and reinforce its identity as a top 10 Swiss private bank; protect the bank’s reputation while ensuring consistent messaging.
- Articulate EFG’s equity story in earned media to build credibility; position senior management, including the Chair, CEO, and regional business heads effectively; advise senior management on media relations topics.
- Manage a professional and high-quality Media Relations office, ensuring timely and compliant responses to all media inquiries.
- Lead or support the execution of external communications projects at the corporate level, such as financial communications for fiscal year and half-year earnings, business updates, and strategic media releases.
- Promote and highlight EFG’s business and investment expertise within the media; collaborate closely with the Investment & Client Solutions department to identify suitable content.
- Act as the primary spokesperson and media contact for the bank.
- Lead and execute issues management and crisis communications, develop contingency communications measures, and advise internal stakeholders and senior management.
- Ensure effective media monitoring, including daily and weekly reviews and summaries; optimize processes and introduce automated solutions to improve efficiency regarding critical communications topics and potential reputational risks.
- Oversee and lead all global media activities, including PR agencies in various business regions, while adhering to all internal guidelines.
- Ensure seamless execution, proper control, and timely reporting; maintain full compliance with relevant rules and regulations at all times, and uphold stringent cost management to respect budgetary constraints.
Main Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
- Five or more years of experience in a similar role within the financial services industry, ideally within a Corporate Communications function at a publicly listed company.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills in UK English; proficiency in German; knowledge of Italian or French is advantageous.
- Experience in issues management and crisis communications.
- Established journalist network and understanding of media operations.
- Ability to conceptualize a media strategy that supports the bank’s overall positioning and communications objectives.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong focus on developing and delivering solutions.
- High degree of flexibility and personal commitment.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools.
