Global Head of Media Relations

The Global Head of Media Relations is responsible for developing and implementing EFG International’s media strategy to actively enhance the bank’s earned media presence and positioning, while also managing relationships within the journalist network. This strategic role includes leading financial communications in close collaboration with the CEO, CFO, and Investor Relations team. Responsibilities encompass drafting and managing key documents such as media releases, Q&As, presentations, and briefing materials.

Issues management and crisis communications are critical components of this position, involving the preparation of playbooks, media statements, and contributions to relevant processes and internal reviews.

Main Responsibilities

  • Further develop and execute EFG’s earned media strategy, enhancing the bank’s media presence and external profile in Switzerland and key business regions.
  • Build and foster a network with relevant journalists and media outlets to shape EFG’s external perception and reinforce the bank’s positioning as a top 10 Swiss private bank.
  • Position EFG’s equity story in earned media and build credibility; support the positioning of senior management, including the Chair, CEO, and regional heads, and advise them on media relations topics.
  • Manage a professional and high-quality Media Relations office, ensuring timely and compliant responses to all media inquiries.
  • Lead or support external communications projects at the corporate level, such as financial communications for FY/HY earnings, business updates, and strategic media releases.
  • Promote and position EFG’s business and investment expertise in the media, collaborating closely with the Investment & Client Solutions unit to identify suitable content.
  • Act as the primary spokesperson and media contact for the bank.
  • Lead and execute issues management and crisis communications, developing and implementing contingency communication measures while advising internal stakeholders and senior management.
  • Ensure effective media monitoring, conducting daily and weekly media reviews and summaries; review processes and introduce automated solutions to enhance efficiency on critical communications topics.
  • Oversee and lead all global media activities, including PR agencies in business regions, ensuring full compliance with all internal guidelines.
  • Ensure seamless execution with appropriate oversight and timely reporting, adhering to relevant rules and regulations, while maintaining a strong focus on budget compliance.

Main Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
  • Five or more years of experience in a similar role within the financial services industry, particularly in a Corporate Communications function at a listed company.
  • Excellent (UK) English writing and editing skills, with a good command of German; proficiency in Italian or French is an advantage.
  • Experience in issues management and crisis communications.
  • A strong network of journalists and knowledge of media operations.
  • Ability to conceptualize a media strategy that supports the bank’s overall positioning and communications objectives.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong focus on developing and delivering effective solutions.
  • A high degree of flexibility and personal commitment.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office tools.
