Position: Global Head of Media Relations

The Global Head of Media Relations is tasked with developing and implementing EFG International’s media strategy to enhance the bank’s earned media presence and positioning. This role involves managing the journalist network and leading financial (reporting) communications in close collaboration with the CEO, CFO, and Investor Relations. Responsibilities also include drafting and managing essential documents such as media releases, presentations, and briefing materials.

Issues Management and Crisis Communications are crucial components of this strategic position, encompassing the preparation of playbooks, media statements, and contributions to internal reviews and processes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Further develop and execute EFG’s earned media strategy to increase the bank’s media presence and external profile in Switzerland and key business regions.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant journalists and media outlets; enhance EFG’s external perception and strengthen its positioning as a top 10 Swiss private bank.
  • Articulate EFG’s equity story in earned media, fostering credibility, and advising senior management, including the Chair, CEO, and regional business heads, on media relations topics.
  • Manage a professional Media Relations office, ensuring timely and compliant responses to all media inquiries.
  • Oversee and execute external communications projects at the corporate level, including financial communications for quarterly and annual earnings, business updates, and strategic projects.
  • Promote EFG’s business and investment expertise in the media, collaborating closely with the Investment & Client Solutions unit to identify suitable content.
  • Act as the primary spokesperson and media contact for the bank.
  • Lead issues management and crisis communications, developing and implementing contingency plans and advising internal stakeholders and senior management.
  • Ensure effective media monitoring along with daily and weekly reviews and summaries; enhance processes and introduce automated solutions for efficient handling of critical communications and potential reputational risks.
  • Oversee global media activities, including PR agencies, ensuring full compliance with all internal guidelines.
  • Guarantee the seamless execution of projects with appropriate controls and timely reporting, adhering to relevant rules and regulations, while maintaining budgetary discipline.

Main Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a similar role within the financial services industry; experience in a Corporate Communications function at a listed company is preferred.
  • Exceptional (UK) English writing and editing skills; proficiency in German is required, and knowledge of Italian or French is advantageous.
  • Experience in issues management and crisis communications.
  • A strong journalist network and understanding of media operations.
  • Capability to conceptualize a media strategy that supports the bank’s overall positioning and communication objectives.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on developing and delivering innovative solutions.
  • High degree of flexibility and personal commitment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools.
