Job Summary
As the Global Application Engineering and Product Manager for Upgrades (m/f/d), you will play a pivotal role in developing and managing our upgrade product portfolio. Your contributions will directly impact our mission of enabling decarbonization and enhancing lifecycle performance for our customers. This role is crucial for ensuring the profitability of our upgrade offerings while successfully implementing projects that align with our sustainability goals.
Your Role
We are seeking an Application Engineer to create innovative upgrade solutions for our Medium- and Low-Speed engine portfolio. You will assume commercial responsibility for upgrade projects across multiple engine brands, focusing on the commissioning of new upgrade solutions onboard vessels to capitalize on our strong and growing sales pipeline.

Your Responsibilities
- Apply advanced application engineering methods (e.g., thermodynamic modeling, mechanical optimization, engine tuning, turbo matching) to design effective and sustainable upgrade solutions.
- Provide customers with optimized turbocharging upgrade solutions to maximize lifecycle benefits for engine installations.
- Develop and profitably grow the global upgrade business in collaboration with strategic partners, engine designers, and end users in accordance with budgets and targets.
- Oversee the commissioning of new upgrade solutions onsite.
- Contribute to the upgrade strategy and implement the product development roadmap, considering market trends, commercial opportunities, and technical requirements.
- Lead upgrade and retrofit projects as the project manager, coordinating internal and external resources across various teams.
- Organize, prepare, and lead meetings with stakeholders including strategic partners, engine designers, and classification societies to ensure effective information transfer for upgrade projects.
- Manage interdisciplinary tasks related to the upgrade business across internal and external interfaces.
- Gather market insights and listen to customer feedback to shape new value propositions.
- Continuously improve internal tools and processes to enhance efficiency; ensure upgrade-related workflows are well-defined and accessible.
- Provide training to the global sales force on new offerings and technologies.
Your Background
- Master’s degree in engineering, preferably with a focus on thermo- and/or fluid dynamics.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in application engineering and performance of large 2-stroke or 4-stroke marine engines.
- Hands-on experience in commissioning large 2-stroke or 4-stroke marine engines.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong communication skills, capable of working effectively in international and cross-functional teams; indirect cross-functional leadership skills are required.
- Solid understanding of global marine market trends, customer needs, and strategic positioning.
- Fluency in English is essential; German language skills are a plus.
- Willingness to travel for various business assignments (20%).
