Job Objectives

The Global Agrochemical Director provides leadership and technical direction on agrochemicals and other residues relevant to tobacco and tobacco products. This role ensures a proactive understanding of worldwide regulatory scenarios and enables effective risk assessment and management across the "seed to shop" value chain.

Additionally, the Director develops the necessary evidence base, policies, standards, and guidance to support compliance, certification where required, and advocacy positions, ensuring the integrity of plant-based products across a diversified portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret worldwide agrochemical and residue legislation impacting tobacco and tobacco products.
  • Monitor and anticipate broader regulatory scenarios affecting agricultural and other plant-based raw materials.
  • Develop and direct testing and monitoring programs for agrochemicals and other residues in finished goods.
  • Ensure compliance with residue legislation and support certification where required.
  • Develop and apply modeling, simulation, and analytical tools to estimate residue levels.
  • Lead the development of strategies, policies, standards, guidelines, and evidence generation related to agrochemicals and residues.
  • Represent JT International S.A. in relevant scientific and regulatory forums and support advocacy initiatives.
  • Recruit, motivate, and develop direct and indirect reports where applicable.

Qualifications

Robust commercial understanding and the ability to translate business questions into actionable recommendations and implications are essential.

Professional Experience

A minimum of five years of experience as an agronomist or crop scientist in the tobacco industry is required, along with strong knowledge of the tobacco supply chain, agricultural business practices, and the regulatory environment.

Education and Training

A Ph.D. degree in agronomy, crop science, or plant and soil science is required.

Language and Computer Skills

Excellent English language skills are essential, with knowledge of French, Spanish, or Portuguese being desirable.
