Purpose of the Role

The Global Accounting Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across all international operations, with a special focus on financial instruments. This position involves analyzing accounting inquiries from local finance teams, reviewing local reports, and serving as a liaison between our accounting and treasury teams. A critical aspect of this role is the correct accounting and disclosure of financial instruments in alignment with IFRS 7 and 9. The successful candidate will manage cross-border accounting activities, coordinate with regional finance teams, and ensure compliance with global accounting standards. The role is based in Basel, Switzerland.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee accounting operations for multiple international entities.
  • Ensure timely month-end and year-end close processes across global subsidiaries.
  • Support the preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert in accounting and reporting of financial instruments, working closely with the Global Treasury team to ensure accurate recognition across entities.
  • Collaborate with local finance teams and external auditors in various regions.
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls.
  • Monitor and implement changes in international accounting standards.
  • Participate in system implementations and process improvements related to global accounting.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to support decision-making.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent certification preferred).
  • 3–5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably with international exposure.
  • Solid knowledge of IFRS and international accounting practices, with expertise in accounting for financial instruments.
  • Experience with ERP and consolidation systems (preferably SAP Group Reporting / Central Finance).
  • Strong Excel and financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Experience in a multinational corporation or shared services environment is ideal.
  • Exposure to SOX compliance or similar internal control frameworks is advantageous.
