YOUR PROFILE

Is there a more inspiring place in the world to teach Geography? What many consider a once-a-year field trip becomes your everyday classroom — glaciers, forests, alpine meadows, and mountain villages are all part of your daily landscape.

As you live and work in the heart of the Swiss Alps, your passion for Geography will come to life for students from diverse backgrounds. Whether you’re encouraging younger pupils to deeply consider climate change and sustainability, or guiding a Year 13 IB student in refining their Internal Assessment methodology while conducting a glacier survey, your teaching will bridge academic learning with real-world experience. You’ll ignite curiosity, foster understanding, and cultivate skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

This is a maternity cover role, running from October 2025 to June 2026, providing a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our vibrant school community during a crucial part of the academic year.

As part of our international boarding school, you will perceive education not merely as a timetable of lessons but as a holistic way of life. From morning classes to weekend expeditions, you will share ideas and adventures with students in a community that values meaningful relationships and outdoor exploration as much as academic success.

You will be a member of a forward-thinking and collaborative Humanities department, where creativity and curiosity are actively encouraged. This role may also include teaching our Integrated Humanities course for Years 7 to 11, and any experience or interest in IB Environmental Systems and Societies would be advantageous.

We are seeking a qualified teacher, fluent in English and well-versed in the IBDP, with experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds. You should be an excellent communicator, confident with digital tools, and dedicated to forming strong relationships with students, colleagues, and families alike.

Being well-organized, enthusiastic, and adaptable, along with possessing a good sense of humor and a willingness to engage fully in school life, is essential. Whether you are leading a parent-teacher meeting, scaling a 4,000m peak, or cheering students on at a nighttime ski race, you view every moment as part of the learning journey — and you’re ready to make it count.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build a strong profile for the subject within and beyond the Humanities Faculty, working collaboratively and committing to continuous improvement in student learning.
• Develop and deploy resources to support high-quality student learning by planning effective teaching programs that provide exemplary learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
• Utilize formative and summative assessments to plan challenging learning opportunities for all students, effectively incorporating homework and additional learning opportunities.
• Support the academic progress of a small group of students within one of our boarding houses.
• Act as a coach and mentor to individual tutees.
• Contribute to whole school learning initiatives.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong knowledge of the IBDP curriculum.
• Relevant degree in Humanities.
• Teaching qualification.
• Fluent English speaker.

EXPERIENCE

• At least 2 years of teaching experience.
• Experience as part of a highly successful department and school.
• Demonstrable evidence of innovating and adapting curricula to engage students and enable them to excel.
• Experience delivering the UK National Curriculum and/or the IB Diploma.
