General Counsel

On behalf of our client, a global event company with entities across multiple countries, we are seeking an experienced, motivated, and dynamic professional for a position based in the canton of Basel, Switzerland.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Advise the CEO and Senior Executive Team on all legal and commercial matters affecting the Company’s reputation, risk, and strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Executive Team on corporate and commercial strategy, including business and corporate development initiatives.
  • Support the development of the global strategy and its implementation in commercial transactions.
  • Lead and support major transactions and negotiations, including M&A, partnerships, and related matters.
  • Structure deals and guide execution for new business and corporate development.
  • Manage board and corporate approval processes.
  • Provide legal support for fair operations (e.g., content, infrastructure, etc.).
  • Embed the Company’s Group governance and compliance best practices across the business.
  • Build and implement legal tools and processes for Company operations.
  • Align legal and risk requirements and outcomes across the Company’s value chain (galleries, visitors/VIPs, partnerships, operations).
  • Standardise and professionalise the Company’s legal outputs (e.g., visitor rules, exhibition regulations, online terms).
  • Provide legal support to the HR team, including employment and organisational matters.
  • Manage and resolve commercial disputes.
  • Liaise with the Company Group’s legal, risk, finance, and tax functions as required.
  • Engage with the Company Group’s Board of Directors as necessary.
  • Manage the instruction of external counsel and oversee the Company’s legal budget.

Your Profile:

  • Law degree with a strong focus on international law is required.
  • Additional academic qualifications or continuing education in business or management is required.
  • At least 20 years of senior-level professional experience in the event and entertainment media industry, with a deep understanding of media, cultural, and digital business models, including technological developments and digital transformation.
  • Minimum 15 years of in-house experience in complex global organisations, with direct experience working in Asia, Europe, the United States, and the Middle East.
  • At least 10 years of proven experience in senior legal roles, leading and executing complex international M&A transactions, including large-scale, cross-border deals with multi-billion-dollar transaction values.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ deep expertise in IP law, ideally within the event, entertainment, or media sectors.
  • At least 10 years of experience at the General Counsel level, with responsibility for managing and transforming operating and organisational structures.
  • Strong corporate and commercial law expertise across multiple jurisdictions, including leading complex deal negotiations and managing diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in leading and managing multi-disciplinary project workstreams, covering strategy, tax, finance, compliance/risk, and operations.
  • Extensive experience working with senior executives and board members in global organisations, positively influencing decision-making at the executive level in a constructive and credible manner.
  • Native or business-level proficiency in English.
  • Ability to work independently, manage novel structures, and take responsibility for commercial risk.
  • Flexibility to operate across multiple jurisdictions, with a willingness to travel regularly.
