Join the ETH Student Project House Team!

At the ETH Student Project House (SPH), we inspire and empower students to cultivate a maker-innovator mindset. We believe that by exploring their own ideas and developing personal projects, students gain valuable hands-on experience and learn essential skills for their future. That’s why we’ve created an ecosystem where students - Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral - are encouraged to ideate, build prototypes, and continuously test and refine their creations.

Our interdisciplinary team of 30 supports students with the tools, knowledge, and guidance they need to pursue their passions. Our well-equipped Makerspace provides access to a wide range of tools and equipment for prototyping. We also offer co-working, ideation, and event spaces, along with personalized coaching, to help projects grow beyond the idea stage.

With a strong focus on digital solutions, we are developing a variety of innovative offerings to support our community, including integrations of different software services and cloud deployments.

About the Role

We’re looking for a new team member to join our Software Development & IT team. If you're ready to work in one of the most inspiring spaces at ETH Zürich - surrounded by 3D printers, computers, and ideation tools - this may be the right fit for you!

We have two locations: a five-storey house near the ETH main building and a space on the Hönggerberg campus. Our open workspace fosters collaboration and creativity as we work alongside student project teams. Our community brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds, and therefore, we primarily communicate in English.

Your Responsibilities

Below is a selection of projects you will be contributing to:

  • Developing an SPH-wide app
  • Providing IT support for the SPH team
  • Server administration: maintenance and updates
  • Dev-Ops and automation tasks
  • Bringing your own ambitious ideas to enhance ETH students' digital projects

Your Profile

We need your digital expertise to support our students and the team:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • You are passionate about analyzing, conceptualizing, and bringing projects to life.
  • You have demonstrable experience with digital tools (e.g., Docker, networking, Unix, Windows).
  • You’re proficient in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, PHP).
  • You’re motivated and eager to learn new languages, tools, and technologies.
  • You enjoy collaborating with people and supporting them in achieving their goals.
  • You can remain calm and flexible when urgent issues arise (e.g., server downtime or a broken webpage).

A note: research suggests that women and individuals from marginalized groups tend to apply only when they meet all criteria. If you believe you qualify but don't check every box, we encourage you to apply.

What We Offer

  • A chance to make a real impact as part of ETH Zurich, which supports your professional development while contributing to positive societal change.
• Numerous benefits including public transport season tickets, car-sharing options, access to sports offered by ASVZ, childcare facilities, and attractive pension benefits.
