BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Maritime Concentration, Finance, or a related field.
- 4-5 years of experience in freight trading.
- Experience working in a global organization.
JOB PURPOSE
The Freight Trader will identify, negotiate, and execute profitable freight trading opportunities within the Panamax dry bulk segment. This role is essential in developing and maintaining strong relationships with charterers, owners, and brokers while leveraging market intelligence and analytics to optimize vessel utilization and maximize earnings. It requires sharp commercial acumen, a deep understanding of Panamax markets, and the ability to manage risk effectively in a dynamic and competitive environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Pricing of Freight and Rate Negotiation:
- Engage with internal traders and vessel owners/brokers to price freight needs and analyze market prices.
- Assist in accurately assessing freight levels and provide information on grain and other bulk flows.
- Contribute to pricing discussions and identify arbitrage and hedging opportunities.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external third-party accounts related to bulk commodity flows.
- Freight Contract Execution:
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of contracts into the Freight Platform’s contract module.
- Collaborate closely with Freight Operations to manage itineraries, stow plans, and voyage execution.
- Resolve minor issues in collaboration with traders and execution teams; escalate larger issues as needed.
- Evaluate contract performance and consult on pricing strategies and operational issues.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Research and evaluate trading partners based on various criteria including price, quality, and reputation.
- Complete training on relevant charter parties, contract negotiation, and internal freight practices.
- Manage data within the freight system and handle documentation related to China flows.

- Ability to manage global trade flows and origin balance sheets.

- Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
- Proficiency in English and Chinese.
- Solid pricing strategy and contract negotiation capabilities.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure trading environment.
- Strong MS Excel skills, along with data science and statistics proficiency.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills; self-motivated and assertive.
