Our turbogas fleet is already capable of burning between 40 and 70 percent hydrogen, with the aim of reaching 100 percent by 2030. We invite you to join our Gas Turbine Test Facility team in Birr (AG) as a Field Operator.

Role Overview

As a Field Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment and systems within Ansaldo Energia’s Test Power Plant. Your duties will include conducting routine plant inspections, performing switching and isolation activities, supporting commissioning, testing, and maintenance work, and ensuring that all plant assets remain in a safe and operational condition.

Working closely with Control Room Operators, Maintenance, Engineering, and Commissioning teams, you will play a vital role in maintaining plant availability, operational readiness, and overall operational excellence.

Your Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections of plant equipment and systems in the field.
• Monitor equipment condition and identify abnormalities, leaks, unusual noises, vibrations, or safety concerns.
• Execute plant start-up, shutdown, and operational procedures as instructed by the Control Room Operator.
• Perform switching, isolation, and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) activities in accordance with plant procedures.
• Issue and control Permit-to-Work documentation.
• Operate and monitor mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary plant systems.
• Support troubleshooting activities during operational disturbances and emergency situations.
• Assist maintenance teams during outages, overhauls, and repair activities.
• Support commissioning and recommissioning of plant equipment and systems.
• Record operational data, inspection findings, and equipment status reports.
• Ensure housekeeping standards and compliance with all safety, health, and environmental requirements.
• Participate in emergency response drills and activities.

Your Profile

• Technical apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Process Engineering or equivalent.
• Several years of experience in power plants, industrial facilities, oil & gas, chemical, or process industries; experience in plant commissioning activities is a plus.
• Strong understanding of rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, valves, and auxiliary systems.
• Experience with switching operations and plant isolation procedures is an advantage.
• Knowledge of Permit-to-Work and LOTO systems.
• Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Hands-on mentality with strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Willingness to occasionally work in a rotating shift system based on operational requirements.
• Good command of English; German language skills at a conversational level are highly desirable.
• Willingness to travel internationally for up to 30% of working time, providing opportunities to participate in commissioning projects, support customer operations, and gain exposure to power plants around the world.
