Role Purpose

The position is within the Global Technical R&D department of Novartis Global Drug Development. The Chemical & Analytical Development (CHAD) team plays a crucial role in developing processes for manufacturing and analyzing complex small molecule drug substances, from the moment they leave the discovery laboratory until they are handed over to Commercial Production. In this role, you will contribute significantly to the development of analytical methods to monitor and control the quality of starting materials and intermediates for complex bio-conjugation constructs, such as Antibody-Oligonucleotide Conjugates.

About the Role

Major Accountabilities

  • We are seeking a highly motivated analytical laboratory expert focused on developing and optimizing analytical methods to control and monitor chemical processes and products.
  • You will plan and perform the development of analytical methods in a non-GMP environment and prepare these methods for transfer to a GMP environment.
  • This position requires the utilization of a broad range of analytical techniques to tackle challenging separation and detection tasks.
  • Documentation and reporting of data will be a key responsibility.
  • Maintaining the laboratory, equipment, and infrastructure is crucial to ensure business continuity and quality of work.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • A successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship (e.g., Laborant Chemie/Analytik EFZ or equivalent with a focus on analytics) is required.
  • We also welcome applicants with a BSc. or MSc.

Experience

  • 5-10 years of experience in a chemical development role is highly desired.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant analytical techniques is essential, including HPLC/UHPLC hyphenated with DAD/MS detection, SEC, AEX, IC, etc.
  • Specialized knowledge in the use of automated separation development (e.g., Autochrome) for complex separation problems is a significant selection criterion.
  • Basic knowledge of software and computer tools, such as the Office package and chromatography data evaluation software (e.g., Chromeleon), is desirable.
  • An independent and self-motivated work style, along with excellent communication and collaboration skills, is important.
  • Good documentation skills during experiments and the documentation of results are expected.

Languages

  • Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required; knowledge of German or other languages is beneficial.
