The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is seeking a new Executive Director (ED) to succeed the outgoing ED, who has dedicated over 20 years to the Society.
ERS is a non-profit international membership organization that unites physicians, healthcare professionals, scientists, and other experts in the field of respiratory medicine. As one of the leading medical organizations in respiratory health, ERS has a growing membership of over 34,000 members across more than 160 countries. Our focus is on science, education, and advocacy, with the aim of promoting respiratory health, alleviating suffering from disease, and setting global standards for respiratory medicine.
The position of Executive Director (ED) is vital to ERS and involves navigating a complex environment with various internal and external stakeholders. We are looking for an experienced leader capable of delivering high standards. The ED will work closely with the ERS Core Management Group and broader leadership team and will be responsible for implementing the organization's strategy, providing operational oversight, and leading the ERS Office team, which consists of approximately 100 employees across three countries.
This position is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, with travel required across Europe and internationally. The salary will be commensurate with the seniority of the role.

Following the closing date, applications will be reviewed by the ERS Selection Committee in early August. Candidates who match the criteria will be contacted for preliminary discussions in mid-August. The Committee will finalize a shortlist by the end of August, with selected candidates invited for formal interviews during the week commencing 1st September in Amsterdam. Please note that interviews may occur over multiple days.
Selection and negotiations with the preferred candidate will occur thereafter, and a development assessment may be part of the selection process.
