JOB PURPOSE
This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and security of the external examination process.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Invigilators are responsible for conducting examinations in strict adherence to the regulations and guidelines of Aiglon College, along with relevant exam boards, including International Baccalaureate (IB), Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), and Cambridge International Education (CIE). The role ensures all candidates have equal opportunities to demonstrate their abilities and safeguards examination materials before, during, and after exams. Additionally, invigilators work to prevent potential candidate malpractice and administrative errors.
- Declare any previous invigilation experience and any current maladministration/malpractice sanctions.
- Understand and implement school policies and procedures, especially those related to child safeguarding.
- Confirm availability in advance of major examination periods.
- Maintain a good level of knowledge regarding current exam board regulations and guidelines by studying all materials provided by the exams officer.
- Complete relevant online invigilator training before the start of each new academic year as directed by the Exams Officer.
Main Duties in Detail
Before Examinations:
- Report to and be briefed by the Exams Officer prior to each exam session.
- Keep confidential exam question papers and materials secure before, during, and after exams.
- Ensure exam rooms are properly set up according to requirements.
- Admit candidates into exam rooms under formal conditions.
- Conduct the examinations with full attention and ensure a proper environment.
- Identify candidates and seat them according to required arrangements.
- Distribute the correct question papers and exam materials to candidates.
- Instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams and address their questions.
- Start the examinations.
During Examinations:
- Supervise and observe candidates at all times, remaining vigilant throughout.
- Minimize disruptions in examination rooms.
- Effectively manage emergencies or irregularities.
- Record and report any incidents or irregularities.
- Complete attendance registers and handle candidate inquiries according to regulations.
After Examinations:
- Instruct candidates on finishing their exams and collect examination scripts and materials.
- Dismiss candidates from the examination room.
- Verify that candidates’ names on scripts match the details on the attendance register.
- Securely return all scripts and materials to the Exams Officer.
OTHER TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As required, invigilators may also perform additional duties assigned by the Exams Officer, such as:
- Supervising candidates with exam timetable clashes between sessions.
- Providing support to candidates with access arrangements (full training will be provided).
- Assisting with other exam-related administrative tasks, such as maintaining question paper security.
- Undertaking any other tasks reasonably required by the Studies Department.
- Understanding and implementing all school policies and procedures, particularly those related to safeguarding children and young people.
Invigilators are also expected to understand the School’s Guiding Principles and uphold the ethos of the School at all times.

Experience and Knowledge:
Desirable - Direct experience of invigilation is beneficial but not required, as training in the role and responsibilities of an invigilator will be provided.

- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.

- Possess confidence and a reassuring presence for candidates in examination rooms.

- Proficiency in IT, including email and mobile messaging; willingness to learn specific software.
- Aim for competence in the role and a thorough understanding of exam board regulations.
- Be reliable, flexible, and readily available during main examination periods.
- Availability to invigilate for whole mornings (approx. 08:15-13:00) or whole afternoons (approx. 12:30-17:30), with a preference for full days.
