Job Purpose

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and security of the external examination process.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

As an Invigilator, you will:

  • Conduct examinations in strict adherence to the regulations and guidelines of Aiglon College and relevant examination boards, including International Baccalaureate (IB), Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), and Cambridge International Education (CIE).
  • Ensure all candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
  • Safeguard examination materials before, during, and after examinations.
  • Prevent potential candidate malpractice and administrative errors.

Additional requirements include:

  • Declaring any previous invigilation experience and any current maladministration/malpractice sanctions.
  • Understanding and implementing school policies and procedures, particularly those related to child safeguarding.
  • Confirming availability in advance of major examination periods.
  • Maintaining a strong knowledge of current exam board regulations and guidelines by studying materials provided by the Exams Officer.
  • Completing relevant online invigilator training before the start of each academic year as directed by the Exams Officer.

Main Duties in Detail

Before Examinations

  • Report to and be briefed by the Exams Officer prior to each exam session.
  • Keep confidential exam question papers and materials secure.
  • Set up exam rooms according to the requirements.
  • Admit candidates under formal examination conditions.
  • Provide full attention to the proper conduct of the examinations.
  • Identify and seat candidates according to required arrangements.
  • Distribute the correct question papers and exam materials to candidates.
  • Instruct candidates in the conduct of their exams.
  • Address candidate questions effectively.
  • Start the examinations.

During Examinations

  • Supervise and observe candidates at all times, remaining vigilant throughout.
  • Minimize disruptions within examination rooms.
  • Effectively manage emergencies or irregularities.
  • Document and report any incidents or disruptions.
  • Complete attendance registers accurately.
  • Respond to candidate inquiries according to regulations.

After Examinations

  • Instruct candidates on how to finish their exams and collect examination scripts and materials.
  • Dismiss candidates from the examination room responsibly.
  • Verify that candidates’ names on scripts match the attendance register.
  • Securely return all examination scripts and materials to the Exams Officer.

Other Tasks and Responsibilities

Additional duties assigned by the Exams Officer may include:

  • Supervising candidates with exam timetable clashes between sessions.
  • Providing support to candidates with access arrangements (training will be provided).
  • Assisting with other exam-related administrative tasks to maintain question paper security.
  • Performing any other reasonable task as required by the Studies Department.

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications, experience, and attributes:

Experience and Knowledge

  • Direct experience of invigilation is desirable but not essential, as training in the role will be provided.

  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Recognize the importance of a robust safeguarding culture.
  • Maintain a confident and reassuring presence for candidates in examination rooms.

  • Proficient in IT, including email and mobile messaging, and willing to learn specific software.
  • Aim for competence in the role and a thorough understanding of exam board regulations.
  • Be reliable, flexible, and available during major examination periods.
  • Available for whole morning (approximately 08:15-13:00) or whole afternoon (approximately 12:30-17:30) shifts, or preferably for full days.
