Position Overview

Caravela Energy Partners is seeking a highly analytical European Gas Analyst / Strategist to support its European power and gas trading activities. This role focuses on developing and maintaining a robust fundamental view of European gas markets, translating complex data into actionable insights for trading and risk management. You will collaborate closely with the trading team to quantify key market drivers, including pipeline flows, LNG dynamics, storage, weather, and regulatory developments, and contribute directly to investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fundamental Modeling: Maintain and extend comprehensive supply-demand balances, track pipeline flows, model storage trajectories, and analyze LNG dynamics to identify market imbalances.
  • Price Forecasting: Estimate the price impact of market events, various weather scenarios, different supply shocks, and other fundamental drivers for specific gas hubs and spreads across multiple gas markets.
  • Strategic Insight: Translate complex data into specific trading strategies for the desk, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Infrastructure Monitoring: Track outages, maintenance schedules, and new infrastructure developments to assess immediate market impacts.
  • Cross-Commodity Analysis: Work closely with power and carbon analysts to analyze gas-to-power switching dynamics and interactions with EU ETS pricing.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience analyzing European natural gas fundamentals (or broader global gas markets)
  • Strong academic background in a quantitative discipline (e.g., engineering, mathematics, statistics, finance, or computer science)
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Solid grounding in fundamental commodity analysis
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with traders and analysts
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, commercial environment with a high standard of analytical rigor
  • Fluency in English
