Catalytic’s mission is to accelerate the design and deployment of catalytic finance solutions for sustainable infrastructure. We focus on identifying and developing robust project pipelines while providing technical assistance to ensure that infrastructure projects become more investible and impactful. Our goal is to achieve positive social and environmental outcomes alongside financial returns for impact investors, utilizing credible methodologies for impact measurement and evaluation. Additionally, we incubate and structure blended-finance funds aimed at scaling up and expediting the implementation of climate-positive infrastructure projects.
About the Role
Catalytic is seeking an ESG Officer (Environmental, Social, and Governance) to assist with various initiatives, including climate mitigation, climate adaptation, biodiversity, social impact, gender equality, and landscape assessment.
Reporting to the ES & Impact Specialist and collaborating closely with external specialists and Catalytic’s partners, the ESG Officer will support activities such as carbon baseline assessments, climate risk evaluations, and the development of site-specific action plans for sustainable land use. The role will encompass projects related to sustainable forestry, agroforestry, and regenerative agriculture, as well as other sustainable infrastructure initiatives, including renewable energy, waste management, urban solutions, and the blue economy.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee the completion of climate mitigation and risk assessments, including procurement, contract management, guidance for external specialists, and evaluation of results.
- Coordinate and oversee the development of sustainable land use action plans, primarily focused on forestry, agroforestry, and regenerative agriculture.
- Assist in collecting, managing, and reporting ESG data at both project and fund levels.
- Evaluate land use projects to ensure compliance with environmental safeguards, NDCs, environmental regulations, and national legislation.
- Assess land use projects for their potential impacts regarding climate mitigation, climate adaptation, biodiversity, social impact, and gender equality.
Candidate Profile
- 2-5 years of experience in environmental, carbon baseline, climate risk, and/or biodiversity assessments, preferably for land use projects, along with the development of related action plans.
- Experience in monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) for ESG KPIs and familiarity with SFDR and EU Taxonomy is advantageous.
- Knowledge of international standards, including IFC Performance Standards, IPCC, GHG Protocol, TCFD, TNFD, CDM methodologies, Gold Standard/Verra, and 2X Criteria.
- Familiarity with ESG data management, biodiversity monitoring technology (remote sensing, eDNA, acoustic monitoring), environmental/climate risk modeling, ESIA, ESMP, ESDD, ESMS, GIS, and Life-Cycle Assessment is beneficial.
- Understanding of GCF, blended finance, investment, and carbon markets would be an asset.

- A strong team player, flexible, with experience in multicultural environments.
- Ability to take the initiative and think creatively to solve challenges on a daily basis.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Excellent writing, drafting, and editing capabilities.
- A minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental science, finance, or economics.
Working Station
The position is based in Geneva, with travel requirements depending on project needs.
