The Impact You Will Have

As an Engineering Manager at Sonar, you will lead a squad of 5-10 developers to build, automate, and operate software used by millions of Sonar customers worldwide. You will be responsible for the professional growth and development of your team, fostering a high-performance engineering culture.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the development of the squad's annual and quarterly objectives in close collaboration with the Product Management team.
  • Contributing to and overseeing technical architecture and engineering direction.
  • Collaborating with engineering manager peers to instill engineering best practices across SonarSource.
  • Participating in an on-call rotation to address any critical system issues outside regular hours.

What You Will Do Daily

  • Lead and manage a team of Engineers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Ensure engineers are equipped to deliver monthly releases of SonarQube.
  • Assist engineers in building a platform for other functional squads.
  • Uphold high engineering standards and accountability within the team.
  • Promote a culture of feedback, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Align teamwork with product management to develop a clear vision that aligns with company strategy.
  • Ensure the squad tracks sprints and progress effectively.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure successful product delivery.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts to attract talented engineers to the team.
  • Oversee the onboarding process for new team members.
  • Model company values, including humility and servant leadership.

The Experience You Will Need

  • 8+ years of software development or equivalent experience, with a strong understanding of software testing.
  • A developer mindset with experience in the coding lifecycle and secure code production.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Java ecosystem and a solid understanding of the DevOps mindset.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language and development environment.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • 3+ years in a leadership or management role with a proven track record.
  • A growth mindset and passion for helping individuals and teams realize their potential.
  • Strong decision-making and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to identify problems clearly and articulate them effectively.
  • Proficiency in delivering constructive feedback and fostering a healthy resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to work autonomously while remaining open to feedback from team members.
  • A willingness to challenge personal boundaries and grow continuously.
