The Impact You Will Have

As an Engineering Manager at Sonar, you will lead a team of 5-10 developers to build, automate, and operate software utilized by millions of Sonar customers worldwide. Your role will encompass owning the professional growth and development of your team, fostering a high-performance engineering culture, and driving the creation of well-crafted software for our products.

You will enhance our products by leading the establishment of the squad's annual and quarterly objectives in close collaboration with the Product Management team while contributing to and overseeing technical architecture and engineering direction.

In this role, you will also promote consistency across SonarSource’s engineering organization by working closely with your engineering manager peers to foster and share engineering best practices. Additionally, you will participate in an on-call rotation to address any critical system issues that may arise outside of regular working hours.

On a Daily Basis, You Will

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to help individuals grow in autonomy and contribute to the team's success.
  • Ensure that the engineers are well-equipped to deliver a monthly release of SonarQube.
  • Assist engineers in building a platform for the delivery of other functional squads.
  • Hold yourself and your team accountable to high engineering standards.
  • Foster a safe culture of feedback, continuous improvement, and collaboration, encouraging team members to share ideas and concerns openly.
  • Align feedback with other teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Partner with product managers, designers, and team leads to clearly communicate a vision for the squad that aligns with company strategy.
  • Ensure the squad defines clear objectives aligned with team, department, and company goals.
  • Track sprints and progress to ensure accountability.
  • Oversee that processes and ceremonies align with company expectations for delivering the best product possible.
  • Facilitate collaboration with squad stakeholders (Product Managers, developer squads, Marketing, Management, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the hiring team to recruit talented engineers for your team and improve the hiring process.
  • Account for the onboarding of new team members within the squad.
  • Lead by example, modeling the behaviors and values cherished by the company, including humility and servant leadership.

The Technical Skills You Will Demonstrate

  • 8+ years of software development experience with a strong understanding of software testing.
  • A developer mindset with experience in the coding lifecycle, secure code production, and code reviews.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Java ecosystem and a solid understanding of the DevOps mindset.
  • Good knowledge of at least one programming language, enabling understanding of end-user context and expectations.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.

  • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role with a proven track record of delivering results and building high-performing teams.
