About the Role

In your role as an Energy Specialist within our Centre of Competence, you will be at the forefront of energy transition, supporting Property and Casualty Reinsurance from within Global Specialty. Your main focus will be on traditional energy products, serving as a specialist in carbon capture and storage technologies, as well as geothermal solutions—critical areas for achieving global climate goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the profitable development of traditional energy transition and sustainable growth of renewables, particularly in CCUS and geothermal segments.
  • Provide technical expertise to Underwriting teams on Energy submissions, acting as the go-to resource on traditional energy, geothermal, and CCUS value chains.
  • Represent the Energy Centre of Competence as an ambassador in your region.
  • Identify client needs and growth potential to develop tailor-made solutions in partnership with Property and Casualty Re colleagues.
  • Actively share knowledge within Swiss Re through training, special projects, and research on Energy technologies and exposures.
  • Take ownership of internal coordination tasks within the Centre of Competence.
  • Contribute to portfolio management by defining best practices, developing Underwriting tools, and recommending necessary corrective measures.
  • Enhance risk accumulation management as an expert user of dedicated offshore accumulation tools.

Specific Tasks

  • Monitor accumulation and headline risk exposure for offshore and wind farm assets.
  • Develop and calibrate costing tools with actuaries, facilitating tool rollouts.
  • Participate in Smart Circle processes to improve costing approaches.
  • Support referrals to the Energy Centre of Competence in collaboration with underwriters and specialists.
  • Develop new products and amend existing offerings.
  • Create and maintain robust training programs for Construction and Operational covers.
  • Teach at client and internal training events.
  • Enable knowledge transfer across regions, lines of business, and functions in the Energy sector.

Global Specialty comprises a diverse team of problem-solvers driven by passion and knowledge. With over 200 underwriters across more than 10 offices, our team integrates Swiss Re's dedicated Specialty lines of business in Reinsurance: Agriculture, Aviation, Cyber, Engineering, and Marine & Energy.

The Energy Centre of Competence is focused on elevating our joint traditional and renewable energy underwriting, contributing to Swiss Re's growth while enhancing our setup and aligning approaches across stakeholders and lines of business. About You

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:

  • University degree in a scientific or commercial field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant traditional energy experience in Energy Underwriting, related investments, or reinsurance tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills to comprehend complex technical topics.
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English.

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with carbon capture technologies or geothermal energy projects.
  • Proficiency in languages beyond English.
  • Background in risk engineering or technical assessment of energy facilities.
  • Experience with sustainability initiatives in the energy sector.
  • Familiarity with energy transition strategies and technologies.

Compensation and Benefits

For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between CHF 132,000 and CHF 198,000 (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered will consider the requirements, scope, complexity, and responsibilities of the role, along with the applicant's education, qualifications, expertise, skills, and experience. In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an appealing performance-based variable compensation component to recognize your achievements, along with a variety of global and location-specific benefits.
