Electronics and Software Engineer - Smart Materials

In this position, you will collaborate with customers, various departments, external partners, and suppliers. Your Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute R&D projects focused on innovative materials and technologies, overseeing the entire product development process from idea conception to industrialization.
  • Develop and optimize new smart materials for various products and applications, specifically sensors and actuators.
  • Prototype and materialize proof of concepts, including the design, realization, and implementation of mechanical, electronic, and software components.
  • Design and construct test setups to evaluate, study, test, and optimize smart materials and their applications.
  • Utilize modeling, simulation techniques, and data analysis to describe material behavior, refine performance models, and enhance material applications.
  • Manage the operational execution of development projects, ensuring timely delivery of results while considering market needs, competitiveness, scalability, intellectual property, and profitability.
  • Create and manage a network of internal and external partners, including academic and industrial development partners, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Interact with customers and support commercial and business development activities related to new products and technologies.
  • Engage in technology scouting and innovation management activities.

Our Requirements

Our ideal candidate possesses a well-rounded profile that combines technical (electronics, mechanics, and software) and entrepreneurial competencies, particularly in the context of research and development, and converting ideas into market-ready products.

  • MSc or PhD in electronics, mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Experience in programming (Python, C/C++), 3D printing, PCB design, and hands-on creation of mechatronics devices and systems.
  • Experience in scientific experimentation, data analysis, reporting, and knowledge of measurement technology.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools and CAD software is a plus.
  • A creative mindset with a passion for innovation and technology.
  • Highly driven, technically curious, results-oriented, and proactive.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain internal and external networks.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral, level C2); proficiency in German is an advantage.
