Join ANAVIA: Electrical Systems Engineer

ANAVIA specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) systems weighing up to 500 kilograms. Our company offers industry-leading unmanned helicopter systems tailored for a variety of mission profiles, including Surveillance & Reconnaissance, Inspection, Mapping, and Cargo.

Position Overview

As an Electrical Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and optimization of electrical wiring interconnection systems that propel our innovative VTOL solutions.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of proven experience in EWIS design, wire harness development, or aerospace electrical systems. Familiarity with aircraft wiring systems, UAV and GCS electrical integration, or aerospace manufacturing is preferred. Hands-on experience with wire harness assembly, installation, and testing is essential.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of electrical wiring principles, wire sizing, and circuit protection.
  • Proficiency with electrical CAD tools for harness design (e.g., Capital Harness, CATIA Electrical Workbench).
  • Proven experience with connector systems and termination techniques, along with an understanding of EMC/EMI principles and wire segregation requirements.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, continuity testers, and hipot testers.
  • Knowledge of wire protection methods such as braiding, conduit, heat shrink, and cable ties.
  • Experience with composite aircraft structures and challenges related to EWIS installation.
  • Hands-on problem-solving skills with the capacity to support both design and production activities; adaptable to working in both office and production environments.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks and aerospace wiring standards (e.g., SAE AS50881, FAA AC 21-99(0), DO-160).
  • Knowledge of lightning protection and HIRF (High Intensity Radiated Fields) requirements, alongside familiarity with automotive or aerospace quality standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).

Communication

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Good language skills in English (oral and written); German is desirable.

Key Tasks

  • EWIS Design & Development:
    • Design and develop electrical wiring interconnection systems, including wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and connector systems.
    • Conduct wire gauge calculations, voltage drop analysis, and current carrying capacity assessments, selecting appropriate wiring materials.
    • Develop grounding and bonding schemes to ensure electrical safety and EMC compliance.
    • Create detailed harness assembly drawings, wire lists, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Installation & Integration:
    • Develop installation procedures and tooling requirements for wire harness assembly and aircraft installation.
    • Ensure proper wire support, strain relief, and protection from environmental hazards.
    • Coordinate wire routing through various structural elements while maintaining adequate bend radius and clearances.
    • Support prototype builds and production installations with hands-on guidance.
  • Testing & Validation:
    • Develop and execute test plans for EWIS continuity, insulation resistance, and functional testing.
    • Conduct wire harness acceptance testing and quality inspections.
    • Support troubleshooting of electrical system issues.
  • Compliance & Certification:
    • Ensure EWIS designs comply with aerospace standards including DO-160, SAE AS50881, and MIL-DTL-38999.
  • Documentation & Configuration Management:
    • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation including wiring diagrams and installation manuals.
    • Develop interconnect diagrams showing electrical interfaces between systems.
    • Generate manufacturing work instructions and quality control procedures.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:
    • Coordinate with manufacturing and quality teams to optimize harness producibility and reduce assembly time.
    • Interface with suppliers for procurement of wire, connectors, and protective components.

Competencies & Duties

  • Work independently and responsibly while adhering to ANAVIA’s safety instructions and quality guidelines.
  • International travel may be required for up to 25% of working hours.
