Job Opportunity: Power Electronics and Certification Engineer (80 - 100%)
We are seeking a Power Electronics and Certification Engineer (m/f/d) to support our Product Compliance Team for a period of at least six months, with the possibility of extension. The ideal candidate will be expected to start on April 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed upon.
About Us
At ABB's "Drives" division, we specialize in producing drives for high-power applications, including those used in shipbuilding and various other sectors. Our offerings include frequency converters and power converters operating within a power range from 0.18 kW to 100 MW, classifying them as medium-voltage products.
Main Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical expert engineer for product certification projects related to MV Frequency Converters.
- Clarify and manage product requirements (standards or directives) provided by the customer and/or Product Manager.
- Collaborate with external Notified Bodies such as TÜV SÜD, UL, and CSA.
- Provide insights related to industry standards including IEC, UL, CSA, and more.
- Obtain and validate final documentation from external notified bodies.
- Coordinate activities with external notified bodies (TÜV SÜD, UL, etc.).
- Write and/or approve test specifications in compliance with established standards.
- Witness tests as per specifications, and review and approve test reports.
- Prepare and support documentation for external notified bodies.
- Assist notified bodies with final documentation requirements.
- Define system integration tests in accordance with product standards.
- Compile critical components related to electrical safety (for UL, APQP, etc.).
- Coordinate the implementation of product changes in collaboration with the Release Manager, project engineering, manufacturing, testing, sourcing, and R&D.
- Facilitate project certification activities across different compliance projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in power electrical engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in compliance engineering.
- Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to quality.
- Self-driven and proactive personality.
- Project management skills.
- Proficiency in Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of mandatory standards: IEC 61800-5-1, UL347A, UL61800-5-1, CSA, ABS Marine, DNV GL, APQP, LVD (2014/35/EU), MD (2006/42/EC), EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU and 2015/862/EU).
- Familiarity with ABB’s products (ABB internal training is a plus).
- Fluent in English; proficiency in German is highly recommended, but not mandatory.
Further Information
- This is a senior position.
- Extension of the contract is an option.
- The workload of 80% can be flexible after discussion with the hiring manager.
- Initially, the position requires onsite presence; following the probation period, it will offer a hybrid model of 1-2 days of remote work and 3-4 days onsite.
