Job Opportunity: Power Electronics and Certification Engineer (80 - 100%)
We are seeking a Power Electronics and Certification Engineer (m/f/d) to support our Product Compliance Team for a duration of at least 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The start date is set for April 1, 2026, or by mutual agreement.
About Us
At ABB in the “Drives” division, we specialize in producing drives for high-power applications, including sectors like shipbuilding. Our medium-voltage drives encompass frequency converters and power converters ranging from 0.18 kW to 100 MW.
Main Responsibilities
- Act as a technical expert on product certification projects for Medium Voltage (MV) Frequency Converters.
- Clarify and manage product requirements (related standards and directives) as provided by clients and/or the Product Manager.
- Collaborate with external Notified Bodies such as TÜV SÜD, UL, and CSA.
- Provide insights on relevant standards (IEC, UL, CSA, etc.).
- Obtain and validate final documentation from external notified bodies.
- Coordinate activities with external partners.
- Prepare, write, and approve test specifications in accordance with standards.
- Witness tests based on specifications; review and approve test reports.
- Support the documentation process for external notified bodies.
- Define system integration tests in alignment with product standards.
- Compile critical component data related to electrical safety (for UL, APQP, etc.).
- Coordinate the implementation of product changes with Release Managers and other departments (engineering, manufacturing, testing, sourcing, R&D, etc.).
- Manage project certification activities across various compliance projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in power electrical engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in compliance engineering.
- Strong sense of responsibility and commitment.
- Self-driven personality with project management skills.
- Proficiency in Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Familiarity with mandatory standards such as IEC 61800-5-1, UL347A, UL61800-5-1, CSA, ABS Marine, DNV GL, APQP, LVD (2014/35/EU), MD (2006/42/EC), EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, and 2015/862/EU.
- Knowledge of ABB’s products (internal training will be provided).
- Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is highly recommended but not mandatory.
Additional Information
- This is a senior-level position.
- There is an option for extension after the initial term.
- The workload can be flexible around 80% after a discussion with the hiring manager.
- Initially, the role will require onsite presence, transitioning to a mixed model (1-2 days Home Office / 3-4 days onsite) after the probation period.
