Job Title: Power Electronics and Certification Engineer (80-100%) m/f/d
We are seeking a highly skilled Power Electronics and Certification Engineer to support our Product Compliance Team for a minimum of 6 months, with the possibility of extension. The anticipated start date is April 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed upon.
About ABB Drives
At ABB, our "Drives" division specializes in producing drives for high-power applications, including sectors such as shipbuilding. Our drives serve as frequency converters and power converters, operating within a power range of 0.18 kW to 100 MW, categorizing them as medium-voltage products.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead as a technical expert on product certification projects for MV Frequency Converters.
- Clarify and manage product requirements related to standards or directives provided by customers and/or the Product Manager.
- Collaborate with external Notified Bodies (e.g., TÜV SÜD, UL, CSA).
- Provide insights related to relevant standards such as IEC, UL, and CSA.
- Obtain and validate final documentation from the external notified body.
- Coordinate activities with external notified bodies (e.g., TÜV SÜD, UL).
- Write and/or approve test specifications according to standards.
- Witness tests as per specifications, review and approve test reports.
- Prepare and assist in the documentation for external notified bodies.
- Support the notified body with final documentation submissions.
- Define system integration tests according to product standards.
- Collect critical components for electrical safety (for UL, APQP).
- Coordinate product change implementations with the Release Manager, project engineering, manufacturing, testing, sourcing, and R&D.
- Facilitate project certification activities across various compliance projects.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in power electrical engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in compliance engineering.
- Demonstrated sense of responsibility and commitment.
- Self-driven and proactive personality.
- Experience in project management.
- Proficiency in Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiar with relevant standards (mandatory): IEC 61800-5-1, UL347A, UL61800-5-1, CSA, ABS Marine, DNV GL, APQP, LVD (2014/35/EU), MD (2006/42/EC), EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and 2015/862/EU.
- Knowledge of ABB’s products (ABB internal training is a plus).
- Fluent in English; proficiency in German is highly recommended but not mandatory.

- Senior position.
- Option for extension: Yes.
- For an 80% workload, flexibility is possible after discussions with the hiring manager.
- Initial onsite presence required, transitioning to a hybrid model (1-2 days remote/3-4 days onsite) after the probation period.
