Job Opportunity: Power Electronics and Certification Engineer (80 - 100%) m/f/d
We are seeking a skilled Power Electronics and Certification Engineer to join our Product Compliance Team for a minimum of 6 months, with the potential for extension. The position is available starting April 1, 2026, or as per mutual agreement.
About Us
At ABB Drives, we specialize in producing advanced drives for high-power applications, including shipbuilding, among other sectors. Our drives encompass frequency converters and power converters, with a power range from 0.18 kW to 100 MW, representing our capabilities in medium-voltage products.
Main Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical expert engineer on product certification projects for MV Frequency Converters.
- Clarify and manage product requirements (standards or directives) provided by the customer and/or product manager.
- Collaborate with external Notified Bodies (TÜV SÜD, UL, CSA, etc.).
- Provide inputs related to applicable standards (IEC, UL, CSA, etc.).
- Obtain and validate the final documentation from external notified bodies.
- Coordinate activities with external notified bodies (TÜV SÜD, UL, etc.).
- Write and/or approve test specifications according to standards.
- Witness tests based on specifications and review & approve test reports.
- Prepare and support documentation for external notified bodies.
- Assist the notified body with final documentation.
- Define system integration tests according to product standards.
- Collect critical components for electrical safety (UL, APQP, etc.).
- Coordinate implementation of product changes in collaboration with Release Manager, project engineering, manufacturing, testing, sourcing, and R&D.
- Manage activities using various tools within the MV Drives organization to enhance product automation.
- Oversee project certification activities across different compliance projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in power electrical engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in compliance engineering.
- Strong sense of responsibility and commitment.
- Self-driven personality with robust project management skills.
- Proficiency in Office365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Familiarity with mandatory standards, including IEC 61800-5-1, UL347A, UL61800-5-1, CSA, ABS Marine, DNV GL, APQP, LVD (2014/35/EU), MD (2006/42/EC), EMC Directive (2014/30/EU), RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU and 2015/862/EU).
- Knowledge of ABB’s Products (ABB Internal training).
- Fluent in English; proficiency in German is highly recommended but not mandatory.

- Flexibility available for an 80% workload upon discussion with the hiring manager.
- The position starts onsite; after the probation period, a hybrid model (1-2 days remote and 3-4 days onsite) is possible.
