The Department of Management, Technology, and Economics (D-MTEC) at ETH Zurich is seeking a proactive Education Specialist to support professors and lecturers in the structuring of courses, integration of digital learning tools, and preparation of course materials in Moodle. This vital role contributes to the revision of the MSc MTEC curriculum, ensuring seamless course implementation and providing day-to-day assistance to the teaching staff.

About the Role

This position is part of the strategic teaching development initiative PAKETH (Prüfungen und Akademischer Kalender an der ETH), designed to establish more balanced study structures and improved learning conditions for students. The MSc MTEC curriculum is undergoing a comprehensive revision to ensure that students acquire the essential skills and competencies needed for academic and professional success.

The Education Specialist will play a crucial role in this transformation by aiding the implementation of a competence-oriented curriculum, ensuring alignment with ETH-wide developments, and enhancing teaching quality. This is a fixed-term position for two years, with the possibility of extension based on project progress and departmental requirements.

Your Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on the comprehensive revision of the MSc MTEC curriculum within the framework of the PAKETH project.
  • Assist faculty in setting up and structuring their courses for effective implementation in our learning management system (Moodle).
  • Enhance the integration of learning tools and digital resources, supporting faculty in developing skills to implement blended learning strategies, interactive content, and technology-driven teaching approaches.
  • Provide hands-on support to faculty members, including new and external lecturers, by optimizing existing courses and developing new ones for high-quality learning experiences.
  • Facilitate workshops and individual coaching for faculty on teaching strategies, digital learning tools, and effective course delivery.
  • Manage the complete course evaluation process, from timely initiation to discussing individual feedback reports with lecturers.
  • Actively participate in the department's teaching commission to ensure that all teaching-related information is shared and discussed with relevant stakeholders.
  • Stay informed about the latest teaching trends in higher education, digital education, and instructional design to bring practical innovations to the department.
  • Embrace flexibility and readiness to undertake various tasks—from high-level advising to hands-on course implementation and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • A degree in education, instructional design, digital learning, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in instructional design, faculty development, and curriculum design, preferably in higher education.
  • Strong hands-on experience with course setup, Moodle, and various digital learning tools, along with the ability to efficiently structure courses and integrate interactive content.
  • Teaching experience in higher education and a deep understanding of instructional design, curriculum design, course development, and digital learning strategies.
  • The ability to collaborate with a diverse range of faculty, adapting to different working styles and fostering strong professional relationships.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to manage strategic and operational tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in digital education and active learning, translating these into practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong service-oriented approach to supporting faculty.
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of German is an advantage.
