Department of Management, Technology, and Economics (D-MTEC)

The Department of Management, Technology, and Economics (D-MTEC) at ETH Zurich is seeking a dedicated Education Specialist to actively support professors and lecturers in structuring their courses, integrating digital learning tools, and preparing course materials in Moodle. This role is crucial for revising the MSc MTEC curriculum, ensuring seamless course implementation, and providing practical, daily assistance to teaching staff.

If you possess teaching experience and expertise in digital education, and enjoy collaborating with faculty to enhance teaching quality—while being prepared to manage the operational tasks necessary for success—this position is an excellent fit for you.

This role is part of the strategic teaching development initiative PAKETH (Prüfungen und Akademischer Kalender an der ETH), which aims to create balanced study structures and improved learning conditions for students. Consequently, the MSc MTEC curriculum is undergoing a comprehensive overhaul to ensure that students acquire the relevant skills and competencies required for both academic and professional success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on the comprehensive revision of the MSc MTEC curriculum, particularly within the context of the PAKETH project.
  • Assist faculty in structuring and implementing their courses in the learning management system (Moodle).
  • Enhance the integration of learning tools and digital resources, supporting faculty in developing skills for effective blended learning strategies, interactive content, and technology-driven teaching approaches.
  • Provide hands-on support for faculty members—including new and external lecturers—by optimizing existing courses and developing new ones, ensuring high-quality learning experiences.
  • Facilitate workshops and individual coaching on teaching approaches, digital learning tools, and effective course delivery for faculty.
  • Oversee the entire course evaluation process, from timely initiation through to discussing individual feedback reports with lecturers.
  • Actively participate in the department's teaching commission, ensuring all teaching-related information is appropriately shared and discussed with relevant stakeholders (students, lecturers, and staff).
  • Stay updated with the latest teaching trends in higher education, digital education, and instructional design, bringing practical innovations to the department.
  • Be adaptable and ready to tackle all necessary tasks—from high-level advising to hands-on course implementation and troubleshooting.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • A degree in education, instructional design, digital learning, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in instructional design (preferably within higher education), faculty development, and curriculum design.
  • Strong hands-on experience in course setup, Moodle, and various digital learning tools, with an ability to structure courses efficiently and integrate interactive content.
  • Teaching experience (preferably in higher education), demonstrating a deep understanding of instructional design, curriculum design, course development, and digital learning strategies.
  • Strong collaboration skills with diverse faculty, from experienced professors to new lecturers, fostering strong professional relationships.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, demonstrating initiative and capacity to manage both strategic and operational tasks.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in digital education and active learning, with the ability to translate these into practical, real-world solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a service-oriented approach to supporting faculty collaboratively and constructively.
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of German is advantageous.
