Your Responsibilities

The available positions are filled for a duration of 3 years, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, contingent upon Ph.D. progress, research productivity, teaching quality, and commitment to chair and departmental activities. Key tasks include:

  • Writing a Ph.D. dissertation based on your own research interests in the broad area of comparative politics.
  • Teaching undergraduate seminars or introductory courses in English or German (approximately 2 hours weekly for two semesters of 14 weeks), advising students, preparing and marking examinations, and undertaking occasional administrative tasks.
  • Participating in department activities and the doctoral program.
  • Engaging in summer schools, scholarly conferences, and scientific networks.

Your Profile

The ideal candidates will engage in research and teaching in the area of comparative politics. They are expected to pursue individual research interests, participate in international conferences, and produce outstanding scholarship with publications in top journals and presses. Candidates must possess:

  • An extensive theoretical knowledge of comparative politics.
  • Solid training in quantitative methods and statistical packages (Stata and R).
  • International experience and the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Fluency in English and/or German.
