Your Responsibilities

The positions are tenure-track for three years, with the possibility of a one-year renewal based on progress in your Ph.D. studies, research productivity, teaching quality, and active involvement in chair and departmental activities. Your key tasks will include:

  • Writing a Ph.D. dissertation informed by your unique research interests within the expansive field of comparative politics.
  • Teaching undergraduate seminars or introductory courses in either English or German (approximately 2 hours per week over two semesters of 14 weeks), advising students, preparing and grading examinations, and handling occasional administrative tasks.
  • Engaging in departmental activities and participating in the doctoral program.
  • Participating in summer schools, scholarly conferences, and scientific networks.

Your Profile

The ideal candidates will contribute to both research and teaching in the area of comparative politics. We expect you to pursue your own research interests, attend international conferences, and produce high-quality scholarship with publications in leading journals and presses. Essential qualifications include:

  • Comprehensive theoretical knowledge of comparative politics.
  • Strong training in quantitative methods and proficiency with statistical packages such as Stata and R.
  • International experience and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in teams as well as independently.
  • Fluency in English and/or German.
