Accountabilities
  • Global lead for the development of health economics models for vaccines in conjunction with external vendors to support access in a broad range of markets.
  • Lead the health economic components of global value dossiers and payer value narrative material development that address local access hurdles.
  • Lead training for local operating companies (LOC) on health economics models.
  • Co-lead, in conjunction with Medical, timely strategic written responses to National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) and payers.
  • Support LOC Health Technology Assessment (HTA) submissions and payer negotiations.
  • Support evidence generation activities for HTA submissions.

Responsibilities

  • Outcome-driven project management of key global health economic deliverables.
  • Strategically drive the development of health economics models that address diverse market needs including provincial and national reimbursement across a range of markets including the EU and emerging markets in Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
  • Effectively manage external consultants including RFP, selection, execution of contracts, budget management, and providing active strategic guidance on projects while serving as the primary liaison for alignment between Takeda's internal strategy and external project delivery.
  • Demonstrate leadership of cross-functional teams and the ability to drive resolutions in the cross-functional development of materials.
  • Define and communicate timelines while proactively mitigating challenges through timely escalation.
  • Anticipate challenges and proactively implement solutions as necessary.

Technical Expertise

  • Utilize health economic, statistical, and evidence appraisal skills to lead:
    • Critical appraisal of clinical evidence for value propositions and health economic modeling including model structure, input parameters, and sensitivity analyses.
    • Finalization of health economic models to ensure alignment with internal commercial goals and external payer requirements.
    • Development of complementary evidence to support HTA submissions through meta-analyses, indirect treatment comparisons (ITC), and real-world evidence studies in collaboration with Medical Affairs and Epidemiology.
  • Co-lead the NITAG HTA taskforce for timely written responses to NITAG and payer inquiries:
    • Possess a strong understanding of the HTA process and experience with submissions and responses to inquiries across various markets.
    • Strategically craft responses that address broader contexts beyond technical specifics.
    • Exhibit excellent communication and project management capabilities to facilitate coordinated cross-functional drafting and review processes.

Training and Collaboration

  • Lead LOC training on materials to support HTA submissions.
  • Actively build and maintain knowledge of health economics challenges in LOC markets through frequent communication and providing methodological and technical support.
  • Seek opportunities to liaise and partner with members of global cross-functional teams, focusing on evidence generation relevant to effectiveness studies and potential reimbursement conditional approvals.
  • Ensure health economic projects are strategically aligned with other functions.
  • Act as a strong advocate to steer cross-functional efforts to effectively support cost-effectiveness and access initiatives.

Advocacy and Publication Management

  • Manage multiple publications related to country-specific cost-effectiveness results and broader narratives on the value of vaccines.
  • Employ a strategic mindset to appropriately stage publications in light of the evolving payer landscape.
  • Actively seek to create solutions to health economic challenges by identifying challenges and researching potential solutions.
  • Monitor changes in the external environment and develop innovative approaches to capture the full economic value of vaccines.

Education, Behavioral Competencies, and Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Health Economics, Epidemiology, or Statistics.
  • Proven track record of delivering HTA submissions and health economic models within a consultancy or pharmaceutical company.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to work across the business to define, generate, and deliver health economics strategy.
  • Excellent leadership and influencing skills, capable of impacting change without direct line management authority.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong project management skills, adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Display a solid ethical foundation.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal).
  • Willingness to engage in domestic or international travel, approximately 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of vaccines, particularly dengue.
  • Experience with HTA submissions and access challenges in Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
  • Familiarity with WHO and PAHO review processes.
  • Motivation to demonstrate the full value of vaccines and influence health economic movements to better address current hurdles, with opportunities for publication and participation in associated networks.
