Role Description
The Director of Enrichment and Onboard Program is pivotal in enhancing our guests' overall enrichment, entertainment, and content experience onboard Viking Ocean and Expedition. This role demands a dynamic and creative professional capable of leading a diverse team to manage and curate engaging educational and entertaining content that enriches our guests’ journeys.
The Director of Enrichment and Onboard Program reports directly to the Vice President of Hotel Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Enrichment Management: Organize and oversee a comprehensive lecture program that features a variety of topics associated with our destinations, guest interests, and scientific insights.
- Destination Insight: Ensure that programs align with the regions of sailing to maximize local exposure and relevant content.
- Onboard Entertainment Management: Guarantee that all onboard shows meet quality standards and uphold the Viking brand. This involves scouting local and guest entertainment in accordance with the sailing schedule and regional characteristics.
- Production Management: Develop and oversee a tailored entertainment program that caters to the Viking guest demographic and specific destinations, ensuring technical supervision across all entertainment areas.
- Onboard Content Management: Manage the creation and distribution of onboard content, including daily newsletters, informational brochures, and digital materials.
- TV Content Curation and Brand Alignment: Curate a selection of television programming that is informative, entertaining, and suitable for our guests. Manage the scheduling and accessibility of this content fleet-wide.
- Copywriting: Ensure that all guest information and displays align with marketing expectations and remain current.
- Talent Sourcing & Management: Lead the recruitment and approval of talent for enrichment and entertainment programs while fostering talent development onboard.
- Training and Development: At Viking, identifying, training, and developing talent is essential through mentorship, coaching, and facilitating successful transitions.
- Functionality and Maintenance of Equipment: Ensure product deliverability and maintain an active maintenance program through proper inventory management, ordering, and licensing.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Conduct financial planning in compliance with company expectations.
Key Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of proven experience as an enrichment/entertainment manager in hospitality, preferably within the cruise industry.
- Extensive knowledge of stage production, including technical supervision and development.
- Demonstrated experience as a Cruise Director on ocean vessels across varied geographical locations.
- Capability to manage a diverse population of lecturers and maintain a broad network in global enrichment.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams both shoreside and onboard.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with native-level proficiency in English.
- A solid understanding of the American hospitality market, ideally with previous experience in the U.S. enrichment/entertainment industry.
- A passion for travel, culture, education, and science.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team and across various departments.
