About Beyond Gravity

Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Beyond Gravity is not your typical space company. We're a unique blend of agility, speed, and innovation, combining a start-up mindset with decades of industry expertise and a track record of 100% mission success. Our dynamic team of over 1,700 professionals, spread across 13 locations in six countries, is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is technically feasible. We're not just building crucial products for the satellites and launchers industry; we are helping to improve life on Earth.

Your Crew

Work alongside members of the satellite strategic space project team who bring decades of experience to the table! Our international team based in Zurich will support you in advancing the crucial work for our Digital Twin. Through your hands-on approach, take ownership in shaping solutions that have a direct impact on the strategic decisions of the division. This internship offers a unique opportunity to build applications that will be used daily within the company as well as with external partners, allowing you to learn new skills and push yourself beyond expectations.

Your Mission

Space systems are becoming increasingly complex, and the need for accurate, modular simulation environments is critical for design, validation, and operations. A Digital Twin offers a powerful way to emulate spacecraft behavior, enabling engineers to test algorithms, predict performance, and inject faults without costly hardware campaigns.

The goal of this project is to lay the foundation of a Digital Twin demonstrator for the Multi-Purpose Platform Satellite (MPP) in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This twin will replicate selected subsystems that provide a backbone for simulation services and visualization.

The work will focus on an interface-driven architecture, ensuring modularity and reusability across hardware models and algorithms. You will explore state-of-the-art visualization tools (Cesium, Grafana) and optionally game engines (Unity, Unreal, Godot) for advanced physics and rendering.

Primary Focus

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of the System Requirements Specification (SRS) and User Requirements for the Digital Twin.
  • Define and document simulation capabilities, including physics-based and subsystem-level simulation behavior.
  • Support the definition of subsystems to be exercised within the Digital Twin.
  • Specify interface requirements.
  • Design Top Level Satellite Architecture.
  • Break down the Digital Twin into components, modules, and elements.
  • Work with senior engineers to establish a scalable architecture blueprint.
  • Help design the single source of truth (SSOT).
  • Implement the data layer in Rust (structs, persistence, serialization).

Your Story

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program at a technical university in the field of aerospace engineering or software engineering.
  • English working proficiency; German is a plus.
  • Ability to program in C/C++ or Rust as a baseline; experience with MATLAB and Simulink is a plus.
  • Good understanding of satellite orbital mechanics, missions, and systems is a plus.
  • Demonstrated engineering and scientific curiosity, along with a proactive attitude.
  • Strong independence, teamwork abilities, and communication skills.
