About Us

Transmutex is a Geneva-based start-up founded in 2019, with a mission to reinvent nuclear energy through an accelerator-driven system (ADS) that optimizes the transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste. Our innovative combination of particle accelerators and fuel, utilizing existing long-lived radioactive waste, will allow us to develop energy processes that are intrinsically safe, reduce the stockpile of long-lived waste, resist proliferation, and remain cost-competitive.

Main Responsibilities

  • Fuel Reprocessing and Manufacturing Design:
    • Design, test, and deploy the fuel cycle considering various fuel options (MOX, metallic, nitride, CERMET, etc.).
    • Manage the fuel cycle in close collaboration with other units, including digital infrastructure, accelerator, transmutation reactor, safety, licensing, and civil engineering, as well as our industrial and academic partners and suppliers.
    • Define and execute technological interventions in the fuel cycle (structure, process improvement, efficiency, etc.).
    • Supervise the design, construction, and deployment of the pyroprocessing facility for the plant.
    • Support our staff working in glove boxes and hot cells for fuel testing and reprocessing experiments.
  • Safety, Compliance, and Licensing:
    • Manage the fuel licensing process, particularly for the Th/U fuel cycle.
    • Guarantee the execution of the fuel cycle while meeting quality and cost objectives.
    • Ensure research processes adhere to regulatory, ethical, and data protection standards (e.g., ISO, NRC).
    • Oversee the implementation of experimental procedures, data management practices, and safety protocols.
    • Monitor compliance with emergency, worker health, job environment hygiene, environmental protection, and ecology standards.
  • Team and Resources Management:
    • Assist the Head of Unit in coordinating and prioritizing work planning, budgets, and resources.
    • Conduct financial reviews of work plans and supplier terms.
    • Oversee team management, guidance, work planning, recruitment, onboarding, and training and development actions.
    • Review nuclear safety analyses.
    • Stand in for the Head of Unit when necessary in leadership meetings or external engagements.
    • Coordinate with other unit heads and transversal units to ensure company-wide procedure implementation.

Qualifications and Professional Achievements

  • Master’s degree in nuclear engineering, chemistry, physics, or a closely related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in the radiochemistry of nuclear fuel within the nuclear sector, with a minimum of 5 years in managerial or technical coordination roles in multinational companies or public/private research institutions.
  • Excellent knowledge of the radiochemistry of nuclear fuel.
  • Deep expertise in the design and fabrication of nuclear fuels.
  • Familiarity with reprocessing and electrochemical separation of transuranic isotopes in molten salt.
  • Prior team management experience, ideally in a multicultural industrial setting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, strategic thinking, and diplomatic abilities.
  • Fluency in English and German; knowledge of French is a plus.
