Main Purpose of the Role

The Deputy Head of Boarding is an integral member of the Boarding Management team. This role focuses on fostering a student-centered boarding environment, providing each student with the opportunity to shine. As one of the two Deputy Heads of Boarding, you will manage a community of around 60 staff members and 300 boarders. You will serve as the link between students, parents, and the academic side of the school, leading the creation and maintenance of a familial environment where students feel secure and well-supported.

Daily interactions will occur with Heads of Houses, House Parents, academic leaders, teachers, pastoral care teams, the medical center, finance, housekeeping, and the school leadership team. The Deputy Head of Boarding will reside on campus and be a member of the school’s Management Team, ensuring the day-to-day pastoral care of students.

The position is available as soon as possible, with a start date of August 3rd, 2026.

Key Responsibilities

Relating to Leadership

  • Actively promote the ethos of RISE.

  • Engage in staff recruitment initiatives.

  • Inspire school spirit and community involvement.
  • Collaborate with Admissions and Marketing to promote CDL.

Relating to the Boarding Team

  • Guide Heads of Houses in their responsibilities and mentorship roles.
  • Lead Performance Evaluations for team members.
  • Provide an effective induction programme for new staff.
  • Disseminate weekly bulletins to staff.
  • Co-chair weekly staff meetings.
  • Equip boarding staff with tools to guide student engagement follow-up.
  • Engage in a whole-school approach.

Relating to Students

  • Ensure a comprehensive and effective student induction programme.
  • Design an attractive and engaging activity programme through student voice meetings.
  • Provide a stimulating evening talks programme for student learning.
  • Offer additional support to students as needed.
  • Foster opportunities for students to express their voices within the community.

Relating to Parents

  • Cultivate positive relationships with parents.
  • Communicate with parents regarding individual success, support, and discipline issues.
  • Guide parents through individual student development pathways.
  • Promote the Boarding Experience to current and prospective parents.

Ensuring Student Engagement

  • Maintain detailed notes on student profiles.
  • Contribute to House Reviews.
  • Identify talents and passions in new students and promote their growth.

Ensuring Discipline in the Student Body

  • Implement the REACH Boarding Software for common use.
  • Produce House reports focusing on discipline and lateness.
  • Ensure consistency in disciplinary actions across Houses.
  • Promote good behavior among students.
  • Contribute to House Reviews.

Shared Responsibility for the Assembly Programme

  • Co-manage the monthly Boarding Assemblies programme.
  • Ensure student engagement opportunities are highlighted during assemblies.
  • Promote music and celebrate success through awards evenings.

Shared Responsibility for House Spirit

  • Enhance team spirit within each House.
  • Manage house competitions to increase participation.
  • Assist with student allocation to Houses.
  • Support House Reviews.
  • Ensure implementation of the Wellbeing aspects of NMS.
  • Facilitate the operation of the Inter House Competition.

Responsibility for the Activity Programme

  • Manage the weekend activities programme.
  • Ensure a balanced offering of activities, sport, and culture.
  • Design trips during holidays for students.
  • Encourage high student participation.
  • Promote collaboration between Day and Boarding Students.
