MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Deputy Head of Boarding is a vital part of the Boarding Management team, dedicated to creating a student-centered boarding environment that empowers every student to shine. In collaboration with another Deputy Head of Boarding, you will share the management of a vibrant community comprising around 60 staff members and 300 boarders. This role acts as a bridge between students, parents, and the academic side of the school, leading the initiative to foster a nurturing and family-like atmosphere where students feel secure and well-supported.

Daily interactions will occur with Heads of Houses, House Parents, academic leaders, teachers, pastoral care teams, the medical center, finance, housekeeping, and the school leadership team. The Deputy Head of Boarding will reside on campus and be an integral member of the school’s Management Team. This position entails ensuring the daily pastoral care of students.

The position is available as soon as possible, with a starting date of August 3rd, 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Relating to Leadership

  • Actively promote the ethos of RISE.

  • Provide leadership by benchmarking individual student achievement through a data-driven approach.
  • Ensure students thrive in their personal development.
  • Participate actively in staff recruitment.
  • Encourage professional development through Nord Anglia University.
  • Create a positive team atmosphere.
  • Promote a holistic approach to enhance student outcomes and encourage development.
  • Encourage school spirit and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with Admissions and Marketing to promote CDL.

Relating to the Boarding Team

  • Guide Heads of Houses in their areas of responsibility, supporting their mentorship roles.
  • Lead the performance evaluations for team members.
  • Implement an effective induction program for staff.
  • Distribute a weekly bulletin to staff.
  • Co-chair weekly staff meetings.
  • Equip boarding staff with tools for guiding student engagement.
  • Engage in a whole-school approach.

Relating to Students

  • Ensure a comprehensive and effective student induction program.
  • Design an attractive and engaging activity program through student voice meetings.
  • Provide an engaging evening talks program for student learning.
  • Offer additional support to students in need.
  • Create opportunities for students to express their voices within the community.

Relating to Parents

  • Cultivate positive relationships with parents.
  • Communicate with parents regarding individual successes, support, and disciplinary matters.
  • Guide parents in their child’s development.
  • Promote the Boarding Experience to current and prospective parents.

Ensuring Student Engagement

  • Maintain detailed notes on student profiles.
  • Contribute to House Reviews.
  • Identify talents and passions in new students, promoting opportunities for growth.

Ensuring Discipline in the Student Body

  • Integrate the REACH Boarding Software into regular use.
  • Produce House reports focusing on discipline and punctuality.
  • Ensure consistency in disciplinary measures across Houses.
  • Promote positive behavior.
  • Contribute to House Reviews.

Shared Responsibility for the Assembly Programme

  • Co-manage the monthly Boarding Assemblies Programme.
  • Promote student opportunities during assemblies.
  • Highlight music in assembly programs.
  • Celebrate achievements through award evenings.

Shared Responsibility for House Spirit

  • Maintain team spirit within each House.
  • Manage House competitions and make them engaging.
  • Assist with student allocations to Houses.
  • Participate in House Reviews.
  • Implement well-being aspects of NMS.
  • Ensure smooth operation of Inter House Competitions.

Responsibility for the Activity Programme

  • Manage the weekend activities program.
  • Ensure a balance of recreational, sports, and cultural activities.
  • Design trips during holiday periods.
  • Monitor student participation.
  • Facilitate integration of Day and Boarding Students.

Candidates should possess extensive boarding experience in a demanding international context focused on excellence. Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential, complemented by robust organizational skills and a methodical approach to task management. Exceptional interpersonal skills are key, characterized by a strong ability to listen, empathy, and attentiveness. Leadership within a team is crucial, as is the capability to coach and develop team members. A dynamic problem-solving approach is necessary, along with comfort in both analytical and creative tasks. It is vital for the position holder to be familiar with Child Protection guidelines while maintaining a professional distance from students while fostering effective working relationships.
