MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Deputy Head of Boarding is an integral member of the Boarding Management team, dedicated to fostering a student-centered boarding environment where every student has the opportunity to shine. As one of two Deputy Heads of Boarding, you will share the management of a community comprising approximately 60 staff members and 300 boarders. Your role will serve as the vital link between students, parents, and the academic side of the school, while you lead the way in creating and maintaining a familial atmosphere in which students feel secure and well-supported.

You will engage daily with Heads of Houses, House Parents, academic leaders, teachers, pastoral care teams, the medical center, finance, housekeeping, and the school leadership team. The Deputy Head of Boarding will reside on campus and be a member of the school's Management Team, playing a key role in ensuring the day-to-day pastoral care of students. This position is available as soon as possible or starting August 3rd, 2026.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Relating to Leadership

  • Actively promote the ethos of RISE.

  • Engage with Admissions and Marketing to promote the College.

Relating to the Boarding Team

  • Guide Heads of Houses in their responsibilities and mentoring roles.
  • Lead performance evaluations for team members.
  • Deliver an effective induction program for staff.
  • Distribute a weekly bulletin for staff updates.
  • Co-chair weekly staff meetings.
  • Equip boarding staff with tools to enhance student engagement.
  • Support a whole-school approach.

Relating to Students

  • Implement a comprehensive and effective student induction program.
  • Design an engaging activity program based on student voice meetings.
  • Provide an engaging evening talks program for student learning.
  • Offer additional support to students in need.
  • Foster opportunities for student representation in the community.

Relating to Parents

  • Cultivate positive relationships with parents.
  • Communicate with parents regarding individual successes, support, and discipline issues.
  • Guide parents in their child’s development.
  • Promote the boarding experience to existing and prospective parents.

Ensuring Student Engagement

  • Maintain detailed notes on student profiles.
  • Contribute to house reviews.
  • Identify and promote talent and passions in new students.

Ensuring Discipline in the Student Body

  • Integrate the REACH Boarding Software as a standard tool.
  • Produce house reports addressing discipline and lateness.
  • Ensure consistency in disciplinary measures across houses.
  • Promote positive behavior among students.
  • Contribute to house reviews focused on discipline.

Shared Responsibility for the Assembly Programme

  • Co-run the monthly boarding assembly program.
  • Promote student engagement opportunities during assemblies.
  • Highlight music and celebrate student achievements at assembly events.

Shared Responsibility for House Spirit

  • Promote team spirit within houses.
  • Organize and manage house competitions.
  • Assist in student allocation to houses.
  • Participate in house reviews and ensure well-being aspects are implemented.
  • Oversee the operation of inter-house competitions.

Responsibility for the Activity Programme

  • Manage the weekend activities program.
  • Ensure a balanced mix of sports and cultural activities.
  • Design holiday trips.
  • Encourage high student participation.
  • Facilitate overlap and integration of day and boarding students.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

The ideal candidate will possess extensive boarding experience in a demanding international context with a focus on excellence. You should be accustomed to working in a fast-paced and flexible environment, demonstrating robust organizational skills characterized by a methodical and structured approach to task management. Your interpersonal abilities are paramount, marked by strong listening skills, openness, empathy, and attentiveness. As a natural leader, you will be adept at coaching and nurturing your team members. Your proactive problem-solving skills, combined with a balance of analytical and creative thinking, will be essential. Resilience and a well-balanced sense of humor are key attributes that will enhance your capability in this role!
