MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Deputy Head of Boarding is a vital member of the Boarding Management team. The mission of this role is to foster a student-centered Boarding environment, giving every student the opportunity to shine. As one of two Deputy Heads of Boarding, you will share the management responsibilities of a community comprising around 60 staff members and 300 boarders. You will serve as the link between students, parents, the academic side of the school, and be instrumental in creating and maintaining a family-like atmosphere where students feel secure and well-supported.
Daily, you will liaise with Heads of Houses, House Parents, academic leaders, teachers, pastoral care teams, the medical center, finance, housekeeping, and the school leadership team. The Deputy Head of Boarding will reside on the campus and be a member of the school’s Management Team. This position involves ensuring the day-to-day pastoral care of students, with the role available as soon as possible, starting August 3rd, 2026.

Relating to Leadership

- Actively engaging with Admissions and Marketing in promoting CDL.
Relating to the Boarding Team
- Directing Heads of Houses regarding their responsibilities and mentoring roles.
- Leading Performance Evaluations for team members.
- Providing an effective induction program for staff.
- Distributing weekly bulletins to staff.
- Co-chairing weekly staff meetings.
- Equipping boarding staff with the tools to guide student engagement follow-up.
- Engaging in a whole-school approach.
Relating to Students
- Ensuring a comprehensive and effective student induction program.
- Designing an attractive and engaging activity program through student voice meetings.
- Providing an engaging evening talks program for student learning.
- Offering additional support to students who need it.
- Fostering opportunities for students to express their voices within the community.
Relating to Parents
- Cultivating positive relations with parents.
- Communicating with parents regarding individual successes, support, and discipline issues.
- Guiding parents through individual student development.
- Promoting the Boarding Experience to existing and prospective parents.
Ensuring Engagement of Students
- Maintaining notes on student profiles.
- Contributing to House Reviews.
- Identifying talent and passions in new students and promoting opportunities for their growth.
Ensuring Discipline in the Student Body
- Integrating the REACH Boarding Software for common use.
- Producing House reports focusing on Discipline and Lateness.
- Ensuring consistency in disciplinary measures across Houses.
- Promoting good behavior.
- Contributing to House Reviews.
Shared Responsibility for the Assembly Programme
- Co-running the Programme of Monthly Boarding Assemblies.
- Promoting student engagement opportunities during assemblies.
- Highlighting music in assemblies.
- Celebrating successes through awards evenings.
Shared Responsibility for House Spirit
- Fostering team spirit within a House.
- Running the House competition to create community engagement.
- Assisting with the allocation of students to Houses.
- Supporting House Reviews.
- Implementing Wellbeing aspects of NMS.
- Ensuring the Inter House Competition operates effectively.
Responsibility for the Activity Programme
- Managing the weekend activities program.
- Ensuring a balance of activities, sports, and cultural experiences.
- Designing holiday trips.
- Monitoring student participation.
- Encouraging overlap and integration of Day and Boarding Students.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
You should have extensive Boarding experience in a demanding international context, focused on excellence. Comfortable in a fast-paced and flexible environment, you will possess robust organizational skills marked by a methodical and structured approach to managing tasks efficiently. Your interpersonal abilities are critical, defined by a strong aptitude for listening, openness, empathy, and attentiveness. You will demonstrate strong leadership within a team, with a knack for coaching and fostering development among team members. Your dynamic problem-solving approach will drive you to continuously seek solutions, comfortable in both analytical and creative tasks. Resilience and a sense of humor are key attributes of your personality!
