Job Description

This position primarily involves providing holistic, evidence-based, and best practice care to a private individual with a positive and person-centered approach. The individual's needs include a diagnosis of dementia, age-related frailties, and any other emerging health co-morbidities.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Assess, plan, develop, and implement individualized care programs, providing advice and maintaining associated records either manually or digitally.
  • Carry out nursing procedures as required, adhering to clinical guidelines.
  • Provide clinical supervision to other staff members.

The post holder will also direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to promote best practices in caring for clients with dementia. In the absence of the team leader, the post holder will provide cover to ensure effective care delivery. Any issues should be communicated to the line manager.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements

  • Swiss or EU passport (or holder of a Swiss working permit)
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or European/Swiss equivalent.
  • Nursing degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Completion of Best Practice in Dementia Training or willingness to undertake this training.
  • Willingness to undergo specific dementia training such as Best Practice in Dementia Care, delivered in English.
  • Additional qualifications related to dementia care, including training on managing stress and distress, meaningful activity, and Sage and Thyme.
  • Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
  • Commitment to personal development in dementia knowledge through CPD, either independently or as provided by the organization.
  • Specialist dementia qualification or further studies in related areas.
  • Understanding of behavior as communication and knowledge of non-pharmacological interventions and strategies.
  • Experience in end-of-life care and the ability to develop relevant clinical skills for addressing emerging co-morbidities and end-of-life care needs.

Qualifications / Additional Requirements

  • Moving and Handling Trainer certification.
  • Background in Beauty or Massage Therapy.
  • Experience in providing meaningful activities.

Language / Essential

  • Effective communication skills in English; fluency as a first language is preferred.
  • Excellent written communication in English.
  • Understanding the impact of language difficulties on individuals with dementia and their quality of life.

Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with individuals diagnosed with dementia is required.

Personal Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team while also showing initiative.
  • Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic technology.
  • Teaching skills for junior staff, family members, and other professionals.
  • Female gender is preferred.

Specific Job Requirements

  • Ability to commit to working a shift pattern in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
  • Willingness to travel with the client in the UK.
  • The role includes unsociable hours, often involving sleepover arrangements alternating nights with another staff member.
  • Accompanying the client to various venues as part of job duties may be required.
  • Professional conduct and appearance appropriate to the client's social standing is expected.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with NMC requirements and the organization’s policies; a confidentiality agreement will be provided separately.
  • An understanding of the client’s local culture and family dynamics, which are crucial as dementia progresses.
  • Housekeeping duties are also an essential aspect of this role.
