Job Description
This role involves providing holistic, evidence-based care to a private individual, addressing her needs in a positive, person-centered manner. The individual currently has a diagnosis of dementia, age-related frailties, and may experience other health co-morbidities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, develop, and implement care programs, providing advice and maintaining associated records both manually and digitally.
- Carry out nursing procedures in accordance with clinical guidelines.
- Provide clinical supervision to other staff members.
- Direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of other staff to promote best practices in the care of clients with dementia.
- Cover team leader responsibilities in their absence to ensure effective care delivery.
- Raise any issues with the line manager promptly.
Qualifications / Essential Requirements
- Swiss or EU passport (or holder of a Swiss working permit).
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration or European/Swiss equivalent.
- Nursing degree or equivalent qualification.
- Completion of or willingness to complete Best Practice in Dementia Training.
- Willingness to undergo specific dementia training (Best Practice in Dementia Care) delivered in English.
- Additional qualifications related to dementia topics including stress and distress training, meaningful activity, Sage and Thyme.
- Understanding of the Newcastle Model and/or PINCHME model of behavior assessment.
- Commitment to ongoing dementia knowledge development as part of CPD.
- Specialist dementia qualification or additional studies in related areas.
- Understanding behavior as communication; familiarity with non-pharmacological interventions and strategies.
- Experience in End of Life Care and the ability to address developing co-morbidities.
Qualifications / Additional Requirements
- Moving and Handling Trainer.
- Experience in Beauty/Massage Therapy.
- Ability to facilitate Meaningful Activities.
Language Skills / Essential
- Effective communication skills in English; ideally a first language or mother tongue.
- Excellent written communication in English.
- Acknowledge the impact of dementia on communication and the associated effects on quality of life.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience working with individuals living with dementia.
Personal Skills and Abilities
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
- Effective listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Basic technology proficiency.
- Teaching skills for junior staff, family, and other professionals.
- Female candidates are preferred.
Specific Job Requirements
- Commitment to a shift pattern based in Buckinghamshire, UK, and Switzerland for extended periods (preferably 10-14 days).
- Willingness to travel with the client within the UK.
- Availability to work unsociable hours, including sleepovers, alternating nights with other staff.
- Ability to accompany the client to various venues as part of job duties.
- Maintain a professional demeanor that reflects the social standing of the client.
- Adhere to confidentiality requirements in line with NMC standards and organizational policies; a confidentiality agreement will be provided.
- Understanding the client's cultural background to mitigate stress and distress, reducing the need for pharmacological interventions.
- Housekeeping duties are an integral part of this position.
