Universitätsspital Zürich - June 29, 2026

Job Opportunity in Molecular Pathology

The Unit of Molecular Pathology at the Department of Pathology and Molecular Pathology at the University Hospital Zurich is a pioneering facility dedicated to advancements in precision medicine, particularly in tumor genomics and multi-omics data integration. Our diagnostic analyses utilize state-of-the-art omics methods and technologies, including whole genome sequencing, bulk RNA sequencing, methylation arrays, digital pathology, and panel sequencing. Our scientists meticulously analyze raw data from these assays to generate diagnostic reports, develop innovative methods, and support various research projects.

Your Main Tasks

  • Independent analysis, quality control, and interpretation of NGS and multi-omics data in a diagnostic setting.
  • Development, validation, and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines for routine molecular diagnostics.
  • Immunogenomics analyses with clinically relevant interpretation.
  • Application of machine learning and AI methods to omics data, emphasizing robustness and interpretability.
  • Translation of new methods into routine diagnostics, including documentation and validation.
  • Preparation of clinical reports in collaboration with pathologists and molecular biologists.
  • Support in training medical and laboratory staff in data interpretation and bioinformatics workflows.

Your Profile

  • MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Medical Informatics, or a related field.
  • Strong experience in NGS/omics data analysis in an applied setting.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R (Bioconductor).
  • Solid understanding of molecular biology and genetics, with the ability to interpret data in a biological and clinical context.
  • Strong foundation in statistics and machine learning.
  • Experience with workflow management systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake, and containerization tools like Docker/Singularity.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and writing skills.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in German is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cancer genomics, immunogenomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, metagenomics, AI-based image analysis, data management/structured reporting, integrative multi-omics, or work in a clinical/medical environment.
