The SDSC has been recognized as a National Research Infrastructure since 2025, evolving from a strategic focus area of the ETH domain, with EPFL and ETH Zurich as founding partners. The Center’s mandate is to support academic groups, hospitals, industry, and the public sector at large, including cantonal and federal administrations. It accompanies and supports their entire data science journey, from the collection and management of data to machine learning, AI, and industrialization.

The Center comprises a multi-disciplinary team of data and computer scientists and experts across several domains, with offices in Zürich, Lausanne, and Villigen.

Position: Data Scientist

We are currently seeking a Data Scientist to join SDSC's Innovation team, whose mission is to accelerate the adoption of data science by Swiss companies, public sectors, and NGOs.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and test machine learning systems to address industry and public sector challenges.
  • Engage in all aspects of data science research projects, from business understanding to proof of concepts and achievement communication.
  • Meet with customers to understand their business needs and develop tailored data science solutions.
  • Code and test proposed solutions (PoC), communicate results to stakeholders, and deliver final reports of work and outcomes.
  • Occasionally present data science results to non-technical audiences.

Candidate Profile:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, Physics, or a similar field (PhD preferred).
  • Ability to present results to diverse audiences (technical and non-technical).
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning concepts and programming skills in Python, R, or a similar language.
  • 1-3 years of data science experience in the industry.
  • Fluency in (Swiss) German and English.
  • Eagerness to collaborate, learn new concepts and methods, and contribute to an inclusive environment.
  • Solid knowledge in NLP, Computer Vision, and Deep Learning is a plus.

Details:

Start Date: September 2025 or by agreement

Duration: 1-year renewable
